New Terrorist Bomb Attack-- Thirteen Injured in Trinidad Explosion
The Radio Equalizer ^ | July 12, 2005 | Brian Maloney

According to a late BBC report, a bomb explosion in central Port-Of-Spain, Trinidad, has injured 13 people, two critically.

It appears to bear the hallmarks of an Al-Qaeda attack, or at least one in sympathy with recent Islamist atrocities in London and elsewhere.

With extensive Trinidad and Tobago experience, allow me to build a case for Islamo-fascism as the cause, even if local police aren't yet saying so.

I believe the thinking was it was possible he MIGHT ATTEMPT to cross the border (probably Mexico, maybe Canada); but I don't believe anyone could verify that he did cross the border into the U.S.

Manning: Emergency plans in place
Tuesday, July 12th 2005

Following is a text of the Prime Minister's official statement on the explosion in downtown Port of Spain yesterday:

UPON receipt of information reaching him that there was a most unfortunate incident in Port of Spain this afternoon, Prime Minister Patrick Manning immediately contacted National Security Minister Martin Joseph and Commissioner of Police Trevor Paul and issued firm instructions that every effort must be made utilising all of the resources of law enforcement to capture the perpetrators of this dastardly act.

The Prime Minister also spoke to the Head of the Special Branch and the relevant intelligence authorities instructing them to gather the required intelligence needed and to do everything possible to ensure that citizens are able to go about their legitimate business without fear and with confidence in the security forces.

In view of recent events in London, the Prime Minister has instructed the Minister of National Security further to put out immediately a series of advisories alerting members of the public to look out for and report to the authorities the actions of suspicious persons and packages etc., to apprehend those with nefarious intentions.

The Prime Minister wishes for a speedy recovery to those injured and traumatised and assures the nation that all emergency plans are in place to cope with consequential activities and the Government will do everything to ensure normalcy is returned in the shortest possible time.

"Special Branch in terrorist hunt"
By CURTIS WILLIAMS

Friday, May 28th 2004

http://www.trinidadexpress.com/shared/images/2004/05/28/n3.jpg
similar images of suspected Al Qaeda member Adnan El Shukrijumah appear in a Panamanian government wanted poster on Wednesday. According to Panamanian officials, the suspect had been in Panama before the September 11 terrorist attacks.

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "While the Police Special Branch has not been able to find records that one of the most wanted Al Qaeda terrorists, Adnan El Shukrijumah, is no longer in this country they believe that he is no longer here.

Police have confirmed that up to last year they, along with the FBI, were searching several parts of this country for El Shukrijumah but could not find him.

However, the US Department of Homeland Security said yesterday that it continues to seek Trinidad and Tobago's assistance and that of several other countries in locating El Shukrijumah.

El Shukrijuma, who was born in Saudi Arabia, has been in Trinidad and Tobago on several occasions since the September 11 attack on the United States and is believed to be planning another attack on the US."

"We must be watchful"
Sunday Opinion
Sunday, August 22nd 2004

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "The central reason advanced for the setting-up of a Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) office is the ongoing search for a top Al Qaeda terrorist suspect, Adnan El Shukrijumah, who lived in Trinidad after the search began for him last year.

The US Embassy in Port of Spain has confirmed that an FBI Special Agent is already in this country setting up the operations to service Trinidad and Tobago as well as Suriname and Guyana where El Shukrijumah is also believed to have found refuge.

The disclosed information is that the FBI Office here will focus on exchanging information on criminal terrorist activities between the United States, Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname and Guyana with the Bureau also being involved in training local law enforcement officers to better fight crime and terrorism.

The Trinidad office will be the FBI's 53rd office, or legat, in a foreign country since the FBI believes "it is essential to station highly skilled agents in other countries to help prevent terrorism and crime from reaching across borders and harming Americans in their homes and in workplaces.""

Shukrijumah was spotted in Honduras earlier this year, FBI officials said, and used to reside in Trinidad and Tobago, off the coast of Latin America. "He is believed to be one of the most dangerous cell leader below the leadership of al-Qaeda who plans to hurt the United States," Art Werge, spokesman for the FBI in El Paso, said.
