According to a late BBC report, a bomb explosion in central Port-Of-Spain, Trinidad, has injured 13 people, two critically.
It appears to bear the hallmarks of an Al-Qaeda attack, or at least one in sympathy with recent Islamist atrocities in London and elsewhere.
With extensive Trinidad and Tobago experience, allow me to build a case for Islamo-fascism as the cause, even if local police aren't yet saying so.

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "AFTER six months of investigations, police say they have found no evidence to suggest that the terror threat story reported by the Sunday Express in January was a hoax or was planted by this newspaper, as suggested by the Minister of National Security Howard Chin Lee.
This according to Supt Errol Denoon of the Port of Spain CID, who was appointed by then-commissioner Hilton Guy to investigate claims by an Islamic group that they intended to attack US and British interests in Trinidad and Tobago with chemical and biological weapons.
In response to a question, Denoon said there is no evidence to say the story was a hoax or it was planted .
The Police Special Branch was also appointed to probe the matter, but this newspaper understands that part of the enquiry was to investigate the Sunday Express team that reported the story.
The Special Branch investigation, according to reports, has been on hold for a couple of months.
In a nation-wide address on January 28, two days after the story was published, Chin Lee claimed the story was totally incorrect , that it could be refuted, and the truth can be told about them .
Since that address Chin Lee has not brought forward any evidence to prove the story to be wrong."

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "In an article posted on a World Bank intranet site, opposition legislator and former government minister Sadiq Baksh told 'Insight' magazine last week that he was very concerned about the threat to security posed by a radical Islamic group.
UNC leader and former prime minister Basdeo Panday has made numerous references to the involvement of the radical Jamaat-al-Muslimeen group in the country's politics.
In 1990, the Muslimeen staged an unsuccessful coup, and the UNC says that the group played a major role in ensuring victory for Manning's Peoples National Movement (PNM) in last October's general election.
The prime minister said the opposition knew that its statements ''made in the current international climate could elicit nervous, negative reaction acutely damaging to the interests of the people of Trinidad and Tobago''.
''A country's reputation is a precious asset, which can be so easily damaged or destroyed,'' he said.
Last week, Manning met both the British High Commissioner Peter Harborne and U.S. Ambassador Roy Austin on the issue.
Trinidad and Tobago had sought to prevent London from issuing the travel advisory following the visit here in December of Baroness Amos, parliamentary under-secretary of state in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
But she responded by telling Port-of-Spain that, ''while we understand the concerns, the lessons of (recent terrorist bombings in) Bali (Indonesia) and Mombasa (Kenya) make it clear that no one is free from risk, and no group of individuals or countries is exempt from the threat of terrorism''.
''We therefore believe the current travel advice for Trinidad and Tobago is measured and entirely appropriate,'' she added.
Newspapers have recently reported that foreign intelligence officers are in the country probing the alleged involvement of a local Muslim group in possible attacks on British and U.S. interests.
But the administration insists there is no ''unusual'' presence of officials from the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) or the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), nor the British Intelligence Service, MI6."

The investigation was eventually handed over to the police after it was deemed to be a criminal act. The police were assisted by US bomb experts who are currently in Trinidad training the Customs K-9 Unit in bomb and explosives detection.
The dogs were employed to sniff the area and nearby stores to ensure that no other explosives were present.
"Terrorism is not what we are entertaining at this time in terms of this event," military sources told the Daily Express. "There was no motive and no specific target, we cannot say that the perpetrators had a specific intent. We believe it was just a random act."
The Daily Express was told that the device used in yesterday's explosion was homemade, did not carry a timer and was in a plastic container.
"We could not detect any evidence of a timer. The fact that it went off near where watches and cell phones were being sold could be a throw off, but we are pretty certain one was not present," the source said.
"It is the kind of bomb that could be made from home ingredients like ammonium nitrate, which can be found in fertilisers," military sources said.
They also said that the person or persons responsible for yesterday's tragedy either knew exactly what they were doing, or pulled what they thought would have been a harmless prank."

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad (AP) -- A bomb exploded in a trash bin in downtown Port-of-Spain on Monday, injuring 14 people, police said.
The commercial district was evacuated and the area checked for additional bombs, but none were located, Deputy Police Commissioner Glen Roach said.
"We have no idea of the kind of device used nor who is behind it," Roach said.
Kenrick Bethelmy, spokesman for the Trinidad fire department, said most of the injuries appeared to be minor, except for those of a 26-year-old street vendor and a woman passer-by. Bethelmy described their condition as "life-threatening."
Local media reported that a man was seen placing a package in the garbage bin shortly before the afternoon explosion at a busy intersection in the capital of the two-island Caribbean nation of Trinidad and Tobago. The site of the blast is two blocks from the national Parliament, which was meeting at the time.
Trinidad Prime Minister Patrick Manning said he directed the national security minister and police to use all resources to catch those responsible. Port-of-Spain Mayor Murchison Brown called for extra security precautions.
The former British colony of 1.3 million people, located off the northern coast of South America, is the most prosperous member of the 15-member Caribbean Community, thanks to its petroleum and natural gas deposits. In recent years, it has become the leading supplier of liquid natural gas to the United States, supplying 75 percent of imports last year.

Apparently though, this is not a terrorist act, but a criminal act.

Police received information which led them to believe that the man was involved in placing the bomb in the bin.

The man in question is said to have sustained injuries to his leg and arms.
