Well stated review of the new 'Dukes of Hazzard' movie by the Denver Post:
Once upon a time, the Box Office Fairy sewed together a form-fitting pair of denim cutoffs. And so continues the degradation of culture by stirring up a sexual frenzy in men young and old. Even Ben Jones who played "Cooter" in the original series is telling people not to go to the movie until it is cleaned up.
No one knows if the Box Office Fairy is good or evil; she merely casts her spells and lets the market sort out the details, sordid or sublime.
Hollywood mortals discovered the denim shorts and asked Jessica Simpson to try them on. They were wicked pleased with what they saw, and commissioned a script.
Two bikinis, a halter top and assorted pairs of 4-inch heels later, we have "The Dukes of Hazzard," which purports to be a remake of a TV show but is more accurately a remake of Jessica's vapid modeling career.
The Christian group called "The Resistance" is urging Jessica to [re-shoot a video they claim to be "whorish"]. "She should be ashamed of her self says John Conner, spokesperson for The Resistance and author of The Resistance Manifesto. This is a remarkable statement in light of the previews of the movie 'Dukes of Hazzard' I saw the last time I went to the theatre with some friends. After observing most of Jessica Simpson's flesh displayed in that short movie trailer, I felt a bit slimed and rather sympathetic with Ben Jones' statement. It left me wondering if "really good Christian" women wear cutoff shorts so high you can see their buttocks.
Its disappointing to have Jessica, a pastors daughter and Christian role model, join the ranks of the singing strippers such as Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera explains Connor.
She has one of the most beautiful voices, and is a very beautiful girl, but its sad to see her whore her self out like this. Whats worse is that pastor, Joe Simpson is Jessicas manager, as well as her father.
But Jessica Simpson hit back, saying "It didn't really surprise me because I grew up with a lot of that backlash. That's why I didn't end up going into the Christian music industry.
"I think that if they're really good Christians the judgment wouldn't be there."
Where are the pictures?!
False. That's precisely why it must be there, particularly between those who profess to be believers.
OOOoooooooohhhh.... so THAT'S the definition of Christianity: not having an opinion.
You know, I just know she's thinking of the parable of the adulterous woman that Jesus saved from stoning by saying "let he who is without sin cast the first stone."
What she's forgetting is what Jesus said to the woman after the would-be assailants left: "Go forth and sin no more."
Nowadays, "judgment" seems to be the equivalent of "having an opinion." But I think in earlier times, judgment included passing the sentence. No one is sentencing her. Therefore no one is "judging" her unless you call having an opinion "judgment."
And if it is, then she's guilty too. She just "judged" them by saying that they aren't good Christians.
I have a very hard time respecting people who use religion as an excuse to tell others how they must live their lives.
To me hitting someone over the head with Christ, figuratively speaking, to force them to conform to your idea of what is acceptable is quite arrogant and stems from an obsessive desire for totalitarian control.
As long as what someone else does isn't infringing upon your personal rights to live as you see fit, you should have the decency to return the favor.
I'll have to see photographic proof before I can (ahem) pass judgement on this article.....
In a scene of the trailer where Simpson was provocatively leaning over the hood of a car, I stated my "judgemental Christian" disgust.
Slimed? Disgust? At Jessica, or at his own natural reaction to the sight of her? Either way, he has somehow forgotten he is a man, and has some issues to sort out. ;)
Yeah, I've seen it, I don't like her singing, I doubt she can act, but she sure is something to look at!
I must disagree. There is nothing Christian about the concept of "personal rights to live as you see fit".
later fake Christian pingout.
Well said, Mr. Jeeves. One gets the impression from this article that the writer would rather have her in a burka.
Anybody see the movie?
I really enjoyed the TV show back when I was young.
I just hoped that Hollywood didn't screw it up too much.
Where did you get the idea that I said that was a 'Christian' concept? If that is the impression I gave you then I apologize. What I meant was if you don't want someone to jam forced secularism down your throat, then maybe you should consider not jamming your brand of God down theirs.
She didn't go into the christian music industry because A) there is less money in it and B) due to her figure a lot of christian studios wouldn't have anything to do with her.
No I realize the the "Figure" thing is a bit prudish but she has gone WAY overboard the other way.
Just watched the video.
Can we petition the government to force the GITMO jerkwads to watch this 24-7? Then maybe they would question why exactly they hate us?
