If Iraq is So Bad, Why Aren’t We Pulling Out of Detroit?

Antiwar protestors and car alarms have a lot in common. They are obnoxiously loud, get set off too easily, and alert you to situations far less serious than they sound. There is also one more; they are usually ignored by everyone around them because the noise never seems to end.

In an otherwise slow news summer, Cindy Sheehan, the soon to be forgotten pawn of the left, has tried to fuel the antiwar cause through personalizing the losses of American troops in Iraq. So, every American soldier who has fallen in Iraq has a mother, there is a news flash. And, in yet another example of investigative journalism at its best, the main stream media has determined that most of these mothers have been devastated by the loss of a child in the War and wishes it had not happened. However, the left’s concerns for the mothers of the fallen and their propaganda that American casualties indicate a losing war effort are disingenuous at best. They are far more concerned with embarrassing President Bush than portraying anything accurate about the War or giving the proper honor and support to the families of the fallen.

Lived most of my life in Detroit and I remember the 800+ homicides per year era.

Thats about the same as Bagdad now.

According FBI crime statistics, Baltimore, Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia, all of which are controlled by the Democratic Party, had a combined total of over 1,900 homicide deaths in 2003 alone. What is their “exit strategy?” Why are they not demanding deadlines from their city councils for an end to all crime fatalities by the end of 2006 or they are going to pack up the police department and move to the suburbs? Why are Democrats so intent to blame President Bush for the continuation of Iraqi insurgency when they cannot even control the insurgency of criminals in their own cities?

I wonder if I were to put 900 crosses up across from Kwame Kilpatricks Manogian mansion how long they would stay up?

Aren't the reasons for the homicides, a little different?

David Horowitz uses this fact all of the time - all the big cities and big city schoolboards are run exclusively by LIBERAL DEMOCRATS. These places are almost all abject failures. And where is the media calling these people out? Nowhere! They just keep reporting how cities and schools "need more money" and how President Bush and Republicans aren't funding them enough (a huge lie).

Not as much as your might think.

The "1,850" loss of life number is a grand total of all American fatalities in Iraq since March 2003. This includes accidents, disease, deaths due to mechanical malfunctions and the traditional "two guys get into a fight over a woman..." scenario's. These are much the same reasons for homicide in the United States.

Liberals want you to think that 1,800 Americans were killed by the insurgents, but this is far from the case.

As to the question if the psychopath criminals in Iraq have any different motives than the psychopath criminals in Iraq, I see none at all. It might be a different place, but people are still people. And, in the case of Iraq, there is very little difference between wanting American troops out of Iraq and American street gangs wanting the police out of the inner city. Both groups want to get rid of any powerful authority over them so they can be free to abuse the innocent people around them.

"In the late '80s, the gang leader of El Rukn – a notorious street gang on the south side – offered to commit terrorist acts on behalf of the Libyan government for $2.5 million dollars. One gang member actually bought a hand-held rocket launcher from undercover federal agents. The leader, Jeff Fort, and others were eventually convicted of conspiracy to commit terrorist acts."

It was MY understanding that WASHINGTON D.C. was the murder capitol of the United States.

I wonder why it is NOT included in these four examples.. Unless, of course, Detroit has taken over..

That didn't make it to the news here. OK, I take back everything I said.

Well, let's see...I live in Baghdad now (though I'm on a brief respite from it) and I can't ever imagine wanting to live in Detroit.

Baghdad doesn't get as cold as Detroit in the winter...

To answer your question, yes, Washington, DC, is the murder capitol of the country on a per capita basis. However, when I wrote this article, I targeted the cities specifically to places that publish my articles in print newspapers, magazines, etc...

One of the challenges of writing commentary is that almost every editor wants something specific to them or their local area.

But just for your info, if I had included DC, the total would have been over 2100 homicides in one year.

No need to take it back, you made a valid criticism.

This issue reflects one of the main problems with media bias in the news. If the residents of many cities actually knew what was going on in their towns, specifically in relation to gang violence, their blood would run cold.

I live in Bucks County, PA, which is a small bubble of serenity between the gang infested areas of Philadelphia, Trenton, and Camden, NJ. The local new media likes to report violent incidents against residents (i.e. home invasions, assaults in public areas, attacks on police etc..) as isolated separate incidents. However, the truth of the matter is a very large number of these are the results of three or four street gangs attempting to pillage the suburbs.

Here is a link if you are looking for more detail.
