An Open Letter to the Media, RE: Hurricane Katrina

Subject: Recent media coverage of Hurrican Katrina & her aftermath

To Whom it May Concern:

I find your recent coverage of Hurricane Katrina to be ignorant at best. What's more, I consider your lack of objectivity in reporting and obvious left-wing bias to be the beginning of the end for modern media, all because you forgot one important factor in today's society - the Internet. I take comfort in knowing that the demise of the Lamestream Media is right around the corner, and most of the blame can be placed on you and your liberal extremist colleagues.

I do have one simple question for you, however. Why do you continue to make the same feeble attempts over and over again? An educated individual would quickly realize that when one method does not work, you move on to another. Nonetheless, you continue your biased tirades against the Bush administration, exploiting every tragedy and the victims you get your blood-stained hands on. It just doesn't make sense! I guess that is why I believe the modern liberal establishment is all the evidence that evolution did, in fact, occur. Unfortunately, it seems to have passed over the liberal mindset.

So, for those of you who may be reading this, wishing to restore some kind of dignity to a once honorable profession, here are a few truths regarding Hurricane Katrina, and the federal response to the event:

1. George Bush is not King - this was a state issue and, as such, disaster relief efforts had to be initiated by the state government.

2. Governor Kathleen Blanco (a flaming liberal), when asked on TUESDAY NIGHT for clearance for the Red Cross, National Guard and other federal resources to enter New Orleans, said she needed 24 hours to make a decision.

3. The USS Bataan was positioned in the Gulf and had just come from exercises off Panama. They were well aware of the storm, and actually rode it out, THEN FOLLOWED IT IN to shore. Personnel from the Bataan were given Presidential Authority to act, and then had to await the Governor's instructions.

4. Likewise, the military was prepared and had authorization to enter New Orleans from outside the city, but had to wait for state approval.

5. On August 28, the President prepared major disaster declarations for the locales along the gulf, clearing the way for the use of federal funds & resources. NOTE: The hurricane didn't actually hit until Monday, the 29th.

6. On the 29th, shortly after the worst of the storm had passed, the Coast Guard was on scene, saving stranded victims.

7. By August 30th, victims were being evacuated by NATIONAL GUARD PERSONNEL, who happen to be federal resources.

The lessons to be learned here?

1. The government has no obligation, and cannot be expected, to save your butt. That is what America is about - the land of freedom & opportunity, but it's up to you to succeed.

2. The welfare state is a major factor in the problems witnessed in New Orleans and other areas. "I don't have to evacuate - the government will save my sorry ass."

3. Liberals, not only in government but in the media as well, ARE LIERS.

So there. I'm done with my first post on this blog, and although the focus was a natural disaster, the underlying theme is that we have a wonderful medium with the Internet. Let's get the word out.

Oh, and the Lamestream Media? Screw you.

The RATS have controlled the region for 2 or 3 decades so they have no one to blame but themselves. In your GREAT post, you say it IS a State call when they ask for help. They have to ask, help will come when they asked help came.

Notice how they "report" only to each other? They slander a US President around the world while just chatting to each other.

Why can't we have a TV show, we could deputize a few freepers to pose as reporters, (like they do), and have a freeper host, and some freeper guests!

Fellow Freepers:

At the suggestion of writer Michelle Malkin last Friday, I have cobbled together a blogsite called Texas Clearinghouse for Katrina Aid to serve as a clearinghouse for refugee efforts in Texas.

Texas is getting more refugees than any other state -- that's fine, we'll take them all -- but we need help providing them with food, clothing, and shelter.

If you are a refugee, you can information that will help you find relief. If you want to donate or volunteer, you can find someone who needs you.

Right now the site mostly covers Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas but I will add various churches, schools, and other charities in Lubbock and Austin tonight. My wife was down at Reunion Arena in Dallas yesterday handing out care packages and spiritually ministering to the refugees as a representative of her employer. She says that the situation is tragic and that there's a lot of work to be done. There are so many children who don't know where their parents are or even if their parents are still alive.

There are a lot of churches and other organizations in Texas that need help in dealing with the problem and I would appreciate it if you would get the word out.

Many thanks,

Michael McCullough

Dallas - this is a terrible letter.
When there are soooo many clear and cogent FACTS to be considered, one doesn't need to stoop to the level of the same people you deride. There's no need to ascribe labels like "left", "liberals", "lamestream", "liars" nor to speculate on the motivations of those in the media. These are the tactics of the Michael Moores, "Moveon.org", and their ilk. Such language and tactics are easily dismissed as just more from the "radical right". Emotional outbursts such as these will only be cheered by those like- minded folk who will pat you on the back and say "right on, bro! That's telling 'em." But quite frankly, they will not be taken seriously by those who have no deep political affiliations or preconceived notions. The folks who are too busy living their lives to pay much attention only perk up their ears at times of national crises such as these. They will listen and observe and evaluate what they see and here and come to their own conclusions. The minute they see "liberal left' or "vast right wing conspiracy" buzz words, they dismiss them. You will never change the views of a Michael Moore any more than you will sway a "ditto-head". They are already committed to their ideology. FACTS speak for themselve and the facts of this disaster need to be revealed so that level headed folk can make up their own mind. The FACTS are so damning they speak for themselves. No need for rhetoric.

Before you condemn all media - remember that hidden in the mire and muck of commercial 6 o'clock news are MOST of the very damning truths that are so beautifully documented on this board. Without the media, many of these facts laid bare to the light of day wouldn't be there for our illumination.

I suggest any further letters you wish to write to the "media", be specific "referenced" letters sticking strictly to illumination of the short comings or inaccuracies of their reporting. That's how you let them know they better be on their guard, because smart attentive people are watching them. Should you be lucky enough to get published - smart attentive people will take measure of your valid comment.

Should be a bumper sticker!

Bravo!

I wrote the letter, and I'm sick & tired of pussyfooting around. Go ahead and be polite. Go ahead and be logical. Speaking from experience, however, I can tell you right now that the average american voter will not sit and listen to cold, hard facts & statistics. The only way they will listen, and then take action, is through use of emotion.

I would highly recommend an excellent book on political activism called The Art of Political War by David Horowitz. Excellent reading and a must read primer for any political activist.

We live in a country that is a civilian authority supported by the military. If you want a military government I think we would have to give up a multitude of rights we now enjoy, but I am sure the "government" would be able to respond to disasters faster!
