Let’s compare what we know about Dick Cheney’s Hunting accident to Ted Kennedy’s accident at Chappaquiddick.

Cheney

Kennedy

Alcohol

one beer

Witnesses account of a wild party

Weapon

Shot Gun

Drunk Driver, driving into a pond

Response

Immediate Medical Attention

Emergency Services never called to the scene

Police Notification

Within the hour

Police alerted the next morning when the car is discovered in the pond

Press Notification

15 – 18 hours

Never formally reported

Press Response

Media Frenzy- calling the White House Press Secretary a Jerk

Sympatric response, spun as another Kennedy tragedy

Democratic Response

Accusations of a Cover-up

40 year career in the US Senate

Result of the Accident

Recovering

Died of drowning

TOPICS: Politics
KEYWORDS: cheney; cheny; kennedy; quailgate; topten
This comparison shows that the press response is about hating Bush and Cheney- nothing else.

Would you rather drive across a bridge with Kennedy or go hunting with Cheney?

One didn't help the victim, left the scene and went directly to their lawyer, letting the law enforcement do whatever could be done many hours later, after the victim was already dead.

The other immediately got medical help to the victim, immediately got law enforcement involved and called the sheriff, and then held off talking to the press until the victims family could be notified and his condition was ascertained, only contacting the MSM many hours later after this was done.

People have to decide who they'd rather "ride" with...but I know whose company I would rather keep.

Nice comparison. As a follow-up, here is a top ten list you WON'T see on Letterman:

Top Ten Reasons It is Still Safer to Go Hunting with Dick Cheney than to Ride in a Car with Ted Kennedy

10. The Vice President doesn't need to sober up before calling for help.
9. The Vice President travels with a medical team rather than a scandal sanitation squad.
8. Vice President Cheney does not have delusional Presidential aspirations to cloud his judgment in a crisis.
7. Hunting with the VP doesn't involve navigating any dangerous bridges.
6. As the victim of an accident involving a Republican, your name will actually be reported on CNN and CBS news.
5. If Vice President Cheney makes a statement regarding Gun Safety, reporters will actually be able to ask you for a comment.
4. You don't have to wait for Cheney to concoct an alibi before help arrives.
3. If there is an accident, Cheney will attempt to save your life rather than his political career.
2. You will be able to tell your children and grandchildren about hunting with the Vice Presdient years later.

And the Number ONE reason It is Still Safer to Go Hunting with Dick Cheney than to Ride in a Car with Ted Kennedy:
1. Cheney - Number 8 Bird Shot; Kennedy - 8 shots of Wild Turkey.
