I believe we are witnessing the end of the "Bush is finished" news cycle. I predict that over the next several months, news stories will begin to focus on Bush's rebound.
Despite the setbacks and infighting that has recently plagued the Administration and the Republican party, the Democrats' lack of a coherent message has hamstrung their ability to capitalize politically. This ineptitude in itself has become newsworthy, and will be the underlying theme of many future news articles. Moreover, the mainstream media is beginning to reap the backlash from overtly unfair and negative reporting. With circulation rates dropping, and more and more news consumers turning to alternative media sources for information, we are likely to see media outlets striving for real diversity in the newsroom -- not faux diversity based on gender and skin color, but true diversity of ideology, background and perspective.
As this metamorphosis occurs, we are likely to see many of the politically incorrect and taboo topics covered with more objectivity. Of course, the far left will cry foul at every turn, insisting that the media's move toward the middle is in fact a move to the right of center. These cries will only further alienate them from mainstream Americans and journalists who carry their banner will be outed as political partisans....

When "friendly" columnists start trashing the President, that's a lagging indicator.
Everytime they talk about Bush poll numbers on the news they try to attatch them to the war in Iraq when his poll problems are tied to domestic policy. A 9 trillion dollar debt ceiling and illegal immigration aren't going to just go away because they want to ignore them.

I didn't vote for him thinking, you know what, he promised to seal the border or, I'll bet he's gonna seal the border. If anyone did they must've hallucinated that reason.
After 9-11 especially (borders were huge problems for years before), I was for stricter security measures across the board including borders and the rest. What about the Taliban spokesman being let into the U.S. to attend Yale University?...yeah, that's the ticket(not!).
But I will take President George W Bush, while hoping for an improved border policy but not stupidly blaming the situation as it now stands on one man and trying to needle him to political death over it, while ignoring his total record.
Neither did I vote for him thinking he said, hey, I promise to keep the budget in balance, or thinking, this is a sure vote for a balanced budget.
Both those issues matter to me, but less than some others, and I did not assume or imagine that voting for Bush would get me something on those two items that I did not hear coming from his own mouth.
Therefore, I don't rail against him now because of them, not without glee (as some rail against him with sadness and respect), NOR with glee and gusto (as if enjoying immensely kicking the President when the Lib Media knocked him down over Iraq, WMD, Judges, Katrina etc).
I take what is, that I'm grateful for in his character and his Presidency, and I hope he and the Congress can get it in gear on the areas they are weak in.
Well, he'd better get a move on.
