This whole situation with P & O, DP World and Eller & Co is just so bizarre. More twists and turns than a pretzel factory... Found this article, "Dubai accused of lying on ports", buried deep in Internet search land.
Remember the email that was "leaked" to the media that implied that DP World was not going to sell its US assets? Guess who the leaker was? (no it wasn't Sen. Rockefeller)... None other than Eller & Co's own lawyer, Michael Kreitzer. Kreitzer said "we're making this public because we think Congress should do what it planned last week - to pass a bill to specifically disavow the Dubai company from owning a US port operation."
This really takes the cake. Here is the company that went on a massive propaganda campaign against the Dubai firm and literally slandered the company with its hate speech. Then it turns out that Eller & Co had an ax to grind with P&O and recruited Schumer to play lead puppeteer in the Congress. Now Eller & Co is considering an offer to buy out operations from DP World in Miami and possibly at other ports. I am no lawyer but this has to be a crime...
Meanwhile, SSA Marine in Seattle, the largest US based port operator, had been planning to accept DP World as its joint-venture partner at ports in Philly, Wilmington Delaware and Camden NJ. SSA was a partner in those ports with P&O. The VP of SSA, Bob Watters, saw "no security issues in having DP World as its partner at the three East Coast ports." Watters also said "All the same people were going to be in place to run the business, so we had no concerns about security."
Now keep in mind this is the same kind of deal that Eller & Co were going to have with DP World in Miami. SSA had no issue with security, no fears of losing customers because DP World was an Arab company or any of the other excuses that Eller & Co with cohort Schumer spewed all over the airwaves. Imagine that - Eller & Co and Chucky were making it all up...

Man says e-mail proves company won't honor pledge

The weeks-long saga of Dubai Ports World's purchase of operations in Miami and five other U.S. seaports took another turn Monday, when the company's Fort Lauderdale nemesis publicized a private e-mail and charged the note shows the Arab company has no intention of selling its U.S. assets.
Eller & Co., now a partner with DP World in a Miami operation after DP bought out a British firm last week, shared an e-mail that said the Arab company's sale of U.S. assets "would probably take a while."
The e-mail from Robert Scavone, a vice president for the port company now owned by DP World, also told managers in Miami to assume for now "ownership - is not going to change."
Eller's lawyer Michael N. Kreitzer said Monday the e-mail proves the Arab company has no plans to meet Thursday's pledge to transfer U.S. assets to a U.S. entity. The move aims to quell political furor - much of it stirred up by Eller on Capitol Hill.
"We're making this public because we think Congress should do what it planned last week - to pass a bill to specifically disavow the Dubai company from owning a U.S. port operation," Kreitzer said by phone.
But Scavone told The Associated Press that the e-mail instead was intended to reassure officials at the Miami unit that uncertainty surrounding ownership would not affect their work and operations.
Eller has been fighting for years against the British company that was its partner in the Miami ports venture and now has a lawsuit against DP World seeking $100 million in damages. It alleges both companies violated contract terms by buying and selling stakes without its consent. It also claims Dubai's ownership will hurt its operations.
The company has been pressing its case with fervor to Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y. Schumer claimed the purchase of port operations by a United Arab Emirates government-owned company would compromise U.S. security.
"It is the American people's understanding that Dubai Ports World promised to relinquish control of all U.S. ports," Schumer told the AP on Monday. "If that is not the case, we will move our legislation immediately and force them to do just that."
His comments came a day after Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., said a Dubai purchase could still go through. If a U.S. buyer is not found, and a 45-day review finds no security risks, "I don't see how the deal would have to be canceled," Frist said on ABC's "This Week."

"We thought the purchase of P&O was a very bad idea. It endangered our operations in Miami," said Alan Neigher, a lawyer who helped craft the Eller campaign.
Eller's campaign included a lobbying blitz on Capitol Hill that has produced a groundswell of Democratic Party opposition to the deal.
Eller "was really the canary in the mineshaft for many people on the Hill and in the media," said Israel Klein, a spokesman for Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y.

In an interview, the attorney said Eller & Co. does not want to become an unwilling partner of DP World's Miami operations.
Muldoon told The News he unsuccessfully appealed two months ago to Sen. John Warner, R-Va., whom he knows personally, and also saw staff members for Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas, to stop the sale on national security grounds.
"I'll check it out," Muldoon quoted Warner as responding.
"Finally, I went to Sen. [Charles E.] Schumer because he is a member of the Senate Banking Committee, which oversees the Treasury Department board which approved this thing. If this hadn't been for Sen. Schumer," Muldoon said in an interview, "this issue would never had gotten any traction.
That seals it --- Schumer.
Is there anywhere on the net that we can see where Eller & Co gave political contributions?
Unfortunately any contributions made within the past year will not show up yet. Believe me, I have a list of names of those involved and will keep checking on it. There are so many companies that are involved with Eller & Co - from subsidiaries that they own to companies that bought out Eller when they were going belly up in the 90's.
Start searching "hvide marine" - they are the ones that bought Eller & Co. Hvide's former CEO was Erik Hvide - he's the one that filed the lawsuit about anonymous message board posts claiming he was slandered.
There is minimal info available on Eller & Co online. Plus there website is "under construction" - probably waiting to announce a big new purchase -wink wink
