The lines to the Senators, at least according to the Capital Switchboard, are totally tied up. I've not been able to get through. I've called home offices instead.
It sounds like a tough bill. I am old enough to remember the last time we went through this "awakening". I think it was in the wake of the Marielito dregs dump by Cuba. We got "religion" for a couple of years and then went back to giving silent approval to the hordes of dirt cheap labor.
The only people making out during these quarter century epiphanies are immigration lawyers. It's like the tax code it's so complicated. They love this stuff. I prefer low tech means for dissuading people. Shoot to kill people seen crossing anywhere but at official bridge crossings. Problem is the bridge crossings are so porous people need not work to hard to get here. Hwy 59 in Texas is the superhwy to mexico. How the hell do you control an 8 lane freeway?
All this phone calling don't do diddly-squat. They only understand large-scale protests, work stoppages... and large sums of money.
bump for later.
I agree with killing the amnesty bills, but why is Frist's increase on LEGAL immigration bad? I think Frist's combined with the House bill is a good match. Also, we need to simplify the process of legal immigration (and every other process while their at it : )

Bombard the Democrats as well, especially the ones that ran on an anti immigration plank and the ones in marginal districts who could be vulnerable. keep pounding on them.
