Arizonians support Bush's tough immigration provisions by wide margins, but 90% against citizenship

Arizona voters stand solidly behind President Bush's approach for lessening America's immigration woes, voicing their strongest support for hiring more border agents, according to a poll released Tuesday. The statewide survey of 351 registered voters found 86 percent supported Bush's proposal to hire 6,000 new Border Patrol agents, while 11 percent disagreed and 3 percent had no opinion. A nearly identical margin supported the idea of holding employers accountable for the employment eligibility status of their workers, according to the poll by KAET-TV and Arizona State University's Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication. The president made a televised speech on immigration a week ago as Congress considers major changes in immigration policy. While a solid majority of those surveyed supported Bush's call for a temporary worker program, nearly four in five voters said illegal immigrants shouldn't be granted automatic citizenship.

Arizonans are living with this invasion directly. I'd let them write the legislation. They know what is needed.

If they read the stuff about bacon davis , social security fraud , etc. I wonder if the poll would be so favorable. In la. We are living with it as well. WE will not leave it up to Arizona or the uninformed koolaiders.

I appreciate that many Arizonians seem to support no amnesty/no citizenship. Hallelujah! I salute you. No doubt border states know way better of the problems and issues at hand. But please tell me what "tough immigration provisions" they are talking about?

Yeah, really...The senate can pass whatever sounds good to the LAME folks in D.C. They have a nasty reputation of doing nothing but watching the wind blow and collecting $$$$, while the rest of us are invaded by Vicente's castout citizens. Besides, we have Janet Baby, who vetoes anything that doesn't help pad her pocketbook...
