Bush regrets tough talk on terror

BESET by low ratings and an increasingly unpopular war in Iraq, US President George W. Bush concluded today that perhaps all his trash talk in the war on terror was not such a good idea.

At a news conference with his British ally Tony Blair, Mr Bush expressed regret for calling for terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden to be brought in "dead or alive" and taunting Iraqi insurgents by saying "bring 'em on". The blunt-speaking Texan said it was "kind of tough talk that sent the wrong signal to people. I learned some lessons about expressing myself maybe a little in a more sophisticated manner."

"I think in certain parts of the world it was misinterpreted and so I learned from that," Mr Bush said during an extraordinarily humble 50-minute session with reporters at the White House.

The US president's popularity rating here has sunk to 31 per cent largely because of dissatisfaction with the Iraq war three years after the invasion to oust dictator Saddam Hussein.

There are some real dirt-eaters on some of the GOP-related threads. We need to call these people out, whether they're trolls or not. They are bad for morale.

you guys just don't get it

you are not living in a bubble, the border is a very serious issue.

if the GOP wants to be the big winner they will need to address the border issue.

remember perot?

i come from a heavy military family and the military community is pi$$ed.

those who are do not know their history are doomed to repeat it!

this is not about the party.

---This isn't an immigration thread.---

They're all immigration threads now. That issue is going off like an air raid siren. You can't avoid it. If Bush came out and said Americans first, build a fence, secure the border, and we'll have town hall meetings and a national discussion about what to do with the 12 million illegals already here, his numbers would go up, war be damned.

The price of gas (which is really the Democrat's fault) and the issue with amnesty at the border and inviting millions of more Mexicans in have the people pissed off IMO.

That is a legitimate one/two punch as to why his ratings are low.

We know he passed tax reform, the economy is great. Jobs are available a decent wages for all those who want to work, so what is it? The war is the war and the people didn't just catch fire on the war issue to reduce his ratings, that is ridiculous IMO.

It is the price of gas and the border.
The border issue has grown huge the last year and we've had all kinds of activism by the left and the President is with them 90% at least and that upsets the base and even the Democrats who want to enforce the border as well.

This isn't the hijacking of a thread IMO, gas/wall IMO are the reasons his ratings suck gas.

The short answer is if you are going to fight make sure you have the machine gun and the other guy has the rocks.

We have the B52s. We should have leveled Fallujah.
We should level Syria and Iran. We should do the Dresden thing.

When you march to War, prepare to make the other guy die!

Bush may be a lot of things, but he NEVER pretends to be anything. Perhaps it's a bit of projection on your part? However, since he's such a "wimp" I guess you can do better? YOU fight a war on 2 fronts, the constant lies and badgering by the press, a congress that would rather hold hands with Dems than with their president, Dems who try every tactic in the world to bring him down, an intelligence service that has/had to be cleaned to be effective but in the meantime is leaking dangerous secrets like a seive, and his pathetic, whiny "base" who expect him to be able to solve everything in the blink of an eye just because they think their issue is the most important one in the world. So since YOU seem to have all the answers, go for it.

your right , poll numbers show that democrats have always have a negative view of the president, and his approval rating with them hasn’t changed, the movement in the ratings have come from a loss of supporters from the Republican Party.

Of all people the president should know that conservatives want to be tough with security law and order, they wanted him to call evil for what it is evil, whether it was abroad or at home.

He seems to be backpedaling now by saying he needs to be more sensitive about terrorism, and coupled with his ideas about touchy feely compassion for Latin Americans whom prop up evil governments yet he wants us to assimilate their people and views here but that just leads to a lack of concern for the security US citizens at home.

It appears that he is now not very serious about national security , which is too bad because that topic is the winner for the American people, lets just hope this faction wont end up steering the party and that these views will just be the lame duck views of the liberal center, and a historic president who said some tough talk and acted on it at one time ...

The US president's popularity rating here has sunk to 31 per cent largely because of the media's successful campaign of lies that has led to people being duped and feeling dissatisfaction with the Iraq war three years after the invasion to oust dictator Saddam Hussein.
