but i am not upset about the war

what about "us guys"?

Who is "us guys?"

I'm certainly not upset about the war. I get to see how successful it is. The media has no ability to influence me on that. I know just how much they are lying to the masses about it.

Funny, I come from a military family as well. Every generation, including my sons. We're actually rational enough to figure out Bush has a pretty full plate and with the RINO's in the senate a compromise is about the best he's going to get. Since this issue hasn't been dealt with for several decades, it's going to have to evolve. I don't really know what he can do...congress has to approve because they dole out the funds and write the laws to make border security happen. Perhaps those of you who are so concerned that every thread becomes a "border thread" (please note: not everyone here thinks that's the most pressing issue of the day) and since you also seem to have all the answers, quit complaining behind your computer screen, get off your butts and do something. Run for congress, hold town meetings, whatever, just quit complaining on every thread...you're beginning to sound like mindless drones and FR is becoming a DU clone.

i come here because i know the du is evil

you guys push base away and think it's a joke

war - i agree

economy - i agree

border - i do not agree

i'm 2/3 w/ you why is it a problem when i don't agree 100%

that's being blind!

I will vote for a conservative in the primary.

"you guys push the base away"? I am the base too, just not the hyperventilating neurotic wing. One of the things that impressed me about the republicans all these years is that there was room for different points of view on issues. One of the reasons I came to FR because of the caliber of the discussions, the intellectual give and take, the consideration of ideas. Since your 2005 crop came, it's developing more the flavor of DU...hysterics instead rational discussion, rushing to judgment without having enough information to do so (i.e. Bush sealing the Jefferson papers for 45 days)...every thread becoming all about "you" and your pet issue. It has nothing to do with whether you agree or not because no one can tell that you do, it's just the same thing, post after post after post.

Bush is pretending that the war is the reason his numbers are so low and not the border.

Where in this article does Bush say the war is the reason his numbers are low?

Nowhere.

In fact, where in the article does Bush say he cares about his numbers at all?

Nowhere.

You read the opinion of the author of the article and mistook it for that of the President.

The MSM's numbers have been steadily declining from an already abysmal low...

Would you say the reason people have been turning off their TV news and stopping their newspaper subscriptions is "it's the borders, stupid" ...

Or "it's the war, stupid"...

Or just "It's their incessant lying, stupid?"

At a news conference with his British ally Tony Blair, Mr Bush expressed regret for calling for terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden to be brought in "dead or alive" and taunting Iraqi insurgents by saying "bring 'em on". The blunt-speaking Texan said it was "kind of tough talk that sent the wrong signal to people. ............. "I think in certain parts of the world it was misinterpreted

If G.W. felt like talking about this, he should have admitted that it wasn't just a case of misinterpretation, it was something much different.

Lame statement.

"He seems to be backpedaling now by saying he needs to be more sensitive about terrorism,"

I thought he was outstanding in the press conference. I don't think he back pedaled one inch. What he said was he regretted the words he chose because they played differently in different parts of the world. To infer he was implying "he needs to be more sensitive to terrorism" is misleading. All he said is the message (his words) could have been packaged differently for international consumption. I liked the shift in tone. Obviously, it is the handiwork of Tony Snow. Watch Rasmussen and see the President's numbers start to tick up.

The fact is obvious, he doesn't have to mention the war or his numbers. If he didn't care about the numbers he wouldn't be appologizing in this disgraceful manner. This is about the war because his original statements concerned the war and it doesn't take a genius to figure it out.

No, I didn't mistake the opinon of the author for the President's. His motive and reasons are extrememly obvious and I am ashamed of his statements, if he indeed made them and it appears he did.

"this is not about the party."

Sadly, some FReepers are still more concerned with "party" than they are "ideology" or "country".

To infer he was implying "he needs to be more sensitive to terrorism" is misleading

We have to infer something about these comments, and its giving the president the benefit of the doubt that he his really serious and wants to be tough about national security, yet doesn’t want to actually say it, because that is how it comes across.

Plus if anyone who has paid attention knows he is not series about protecting our borders, and many already have given him the benefit of the doubt to date that he really was serious about security, but his border stance was just an anomaly.

But it cant be both ways, a person cant be tough about terrorism abroad in the interest of national security and then fail to protect our own borders.

Even before the president made these touchy feely comments, nobody has to infer anything about the presidents lack of concern about terrorists at home such as Mexican mafia, MS -13 gangs. He has not been serious about those breaking into our country using fake identities which is a felony, he doesn't seem to be concerned that the insurgent marches in our own streets many are being encouraged by Venezuela, Cuba and Marxists, whom have announced to be partners with Iran, and praised Al Qaeda. "

So a lot of us have thought the president has backpedaled on his views about terrorism, even before these remarks ever since 9/11 commission recommended that our borders were a problem for example, yet nothing was done in terms of enforcement, and nothing is planned but lip service and facades.

It cant be both was, these words and the presents failure to implement security reform as recommended by the 9/11 commission and by the way promised to us that the border enforcement was going to be handled separately in bill this year. This is a 180 degree reversal from the words the president gave the American public about protecting our country from terrorism abroad so we don’t have to do it here on our own soil.

Well with 100 million new immigrants open borders, and looking the other way at fraudulent background checks, guess what? We will be fighting on our own spoil, there will be nothing to protect the American people from floods of insurgents on our own soil, and this is what can be inferred from his comments and policies.

The tough talk boosted him. If he starts backing off on this now I would almost bet that his "ratings" will sink even lower.

He needs to not worry what the rest of the bolshevik world thinks.

It's not their war to win or lose, most of them have already surrendered.

I believe immigration is an important issue but, not everything is necessarily about immigration. I don't think last night's press conference was about anything other than Iraq. Somebody (Tony Snow I suspect) has said to the President what you say is not nearly as important as what you do. So, last night I heard the President gently say I don't regret any of the hard choices that I made. But, I may regret my language in talking about those choices.
It makes me angry to see the President's fair weather friends abandoning him now. Some of his loudest supporters have conveniently joined the new parade to become his loudest critics. It is easy to be against him, it takes a lot more guts to hang in there when the slogging becomes tough.

Probably wasn't a waste of time, as Bush and Blair reminded each other they were best friends just up there, shootin' the breeze...

These hot doggers had best get this out of their systems. As we get closer to the elections, FR will pull together to keep Republicans in Congress, and that will include moderating the criticism of George W. Bush.

Those that don't get the message will be seeing the blue screen.
