I guess I should know better by now, but I still write to all kinds of liberal-left groups. Usually, I am provoked to it by their inanities, especially on the subject of the solution to the "Jewish Problem" in the Middle East.
So I'm minding my own business, taking a look at the very useful IsraelInsider Website, when I come across this http://web.israelinsider.com/views/8971.htm shmatte from MJ Rosenberg, big poobah at the Israel Policy Forum. This conglomeration of people was apparently relaxing at Woodstock when they were covered in amber, preserving them in a perfect state of delusion. Guess what? Rosenberg thinks we should just give peace a chance.
So, I follow links to IPF's site and send this:
Sometimes, a person or group unwittingly says everything that needs to be said about their ideas. Such is the case with the dreamy-eyed peaceniks of the Israel Policy Forum.
Your home page features this 2005 quote from then deputy PM Ehud Olmert: "What the government of Ariel Sharon is doing is a dramatic change that will have an enormous impact on everything that will happen thereafter, in the State of Israel and in the Middle East."
"Dramatic change"? "Enormous impact"? Indeed. If the choice of quote wasn't so tragically ironic, it might be funny. The dramatic change: Israel confronted with even more implacable foes in superior strategic positions. The enormous impact: the concussion of more and more rockets, slamming into Jewish towns and cities with greater payload, range and accuracy every day, from not one, but two fronts, reaching ever deeper into the Jewish Heartland.
Have you neither the sense, nor the shame to recognize how colossally, pathetically and obviously wrong you are? When will you realize that the neat symmetry of peace simply does not exist in this struggle? There have to be two, that's TWO, parties sincerely committed to the goal of peace to make peace. The Islamofascists have a total theological commitment to the destruction of Israel and every Jew. There is no more foundation for peace in this equation than there was until the German and Japanese nations were faced with the prospect of total annihilation. Do you think the Islamic ideology is any less virulent than Hitler's or Tojo's?
There is only one way out: victory. You want to have an enormous impact or dramatic change: try winning. To triumph over evil, prepare to destroy it or be destroyed. There is no "third way".
