Dog Whisperer (Cesar Millan) on National Geographic: Problem Dogs
National Geographic Channel | 8/2/2006 | Ceasr Millan

Posted on 08/02/2006 6:16:51 PM PDT by sinkspur

This is a fascinating series. This guy deals with problem dogs, feral dogs, dogs that were on death row.

He turns them into calm, submissive animals that can become good pets.

This episode will be followed by another, on the National Geographic Channel.

I read his book. We're using his methods to tame a one-year old rescue we just got who wants to run the house.

He's an entirely different dog as he gets boundaries and into his daily routine.

He also realizes I'm the boss!!

I have a two year old rescue we've had for a little over a year. Unfortunately I didn't know about this guy at the time, but we found a trainer who uses a shock collar, not for punishment, but for reinforcing commands. That made the difference between us keeping our dog or passing him on.

I'm learning stuff from Cesar that's helping now too

Yes, he is wonderful, BUT-

Can he pass the ultimate test and train my 3# yorkie to do her business ON the piddle pad and not next to it? :)

He is amazing. I love watching his show and learn something new everyday.

You do realize that Cesar is a Pit Bull lover and that much of his 'posse' are Pit Bulls?

I do see that. Maybe he'll change my mind.

The only thing is, if the owners can't change or won't change, a pit or rottie can be dangerous to human beings and other animals.

I get the biggest kick out of Cesar. The dogs are not as much a problem as the owners. The looks he gets on his face are priceless.

Great show!!

The common theme of the Dog Whisperer is that American dog owners do not know how to exercise authority over their pets. Indeed, they fear to do so. The failing, of course, is not limited to dog owners, as permissiveness and moral relativism have robbed so many Americans of the common sense recognition that the proper exercise of authority is the essence of responsibility. I like Cesar Milan and his show, but rue that Americans need an illegal immigrant turned citizen to teach them how to exercise authority over their dogs. The lessons are needed, but the need for the lessons stings.

Common sense seems to be lacking in every aspect of American life these days, not just with exercising authority over your dog(s).
