I just have this image in my head of all those Gore supporters/demonstrators after the 2000 election. They were all very young and insanely hateful and angry.
Remember, we're just dealing with percentages here. I know that about half of today's young kids are good kids and some of them are fighting and dying for us. But half of them are rats.
The finest generation was the finest because 90% of them were fine young men and women.
You're right about the first wave of baby boomers though: a huge percentage of them were liberals, including me (but please forgive me: I was young and dumb and just wanted the pretty hippy girls to go to bed with me--IT WAS ALL PEER PRESSURE, I TELL 'YA!).
But most of us went back to our conservative roots when we saw how bankrupt that philosophy was. Today I don't think these kids have conservative roots to go back to, mainly because the old baby boomer hippies went into education.

In the end military service helped a lot of us grow up. I don't want the military to baby sit a bunch of liberal brats, but if military service were required of every draft-aged male, it's my belief that we'd have a many fewer middle-aged liberals running around (raising their own kids to be liberals and acquiescing in all the crap that's taught in public school nowadays). So there are solid conservative social benefits to be had, too.
'Course, this assumes that we bring back the old school military...
