With several million illegals in the country,we need to take action - but carefully !
Some ideas have surfaced.

SSS? Nah, we'd fill-up the Grand Canyon in minutes, g. Ha!
Take away the carrot and most will deport themselves and negate the need for the stick.
The Eisenhower Administration did right well on immigration Criminals.
We need to use that as our example.
Stop access to welfare, schools, government hand outs or hospitals.
Demand some bills be paid by Mexico maybe with oil.
"Take away the carrot and most will deport themselves and negate the need for the stick."
As a lifetime resident of SoCal, I say you are wrong.
To most, the prize is just being here, because the US is SO MUCH better than where they came from.
Then we use the stick.
Hugh (and I mean HUGH) fines against those that hire illegal aliens would stop this problem quickly!!
Yes, and charge all employers who hire illegals with a felony and give them heavy fines. When the real carrot (jobs) disappears so will the illegal tsunami. It will die of attrition.
I agree.
I would fine first time $500.
Week in jail and a $1000 fine the second time.
Third time a felony, big $10,000 fine and three months in jail.
"Hugh (and I mean HUGH) fines against those that hire illegal aliens would stop this problem quickly!!"
Under current law all the employer has to do is have a look at certain documents (phonies); in his file. Form I-9
He is NOT expected under the law to be a document expert; he has covered his butt with the copies in the file.
That is what employers do everyday across the land, and by doing so are in compliance with the law, and have a government prescribed file to prove it.
The law must be changed, the documents must be changed, etc.
The pilot, voluntary system to verify SSN is in progress. Painfully slow, as with everything government touches.
More was done under Clinton to come down on employers--giving validity to the claim Bush is beholden to business, which I believe.
So hopes of big busts, big penalties are a way into the future.
So it remains a big, legally complex topic. Do you give amnesty to employers, which we effectively DO with the PRESENT system?
You and I and the employer ALL KNOW the employees are illegal immigrants. Without worker amnesty of some type, we will be expecting employers to lose valued employees, in many cases without qualified replacements.
Little has been accomplished to date. The congress hasn't committed to do a conference committee.
The laws have NOT been changed.
"We can't send 11 million people across the border."
Sure we can...........Mexico did.
