Interesting stats on oil imports by country. Note that we import more from non-OPEC countries than OPEC countries.

Interesting. Much more from Canada and Mexico than Venezuela - I didn't know Venezuela was a member of OPEC.

Venezuela is one of the five founding members of OPEC. The idea itself (an international oil cartel) was the initiative of Juan Pablo Pérez Alfonzo, who proposed it as a response to low domestic and international oil prices in August 1960.

Thanks-

This is like the "Myth Busters".

The other urban legends out there perpetuated by the MSM which brought us stories of global oil reserves running out by the year 2000 in the late 70s, and $5 a gallon fuel half a year ago, is the amount of oil we import as a ratio of our consumption. If you discount off shore drilling, if you discount NAFTA member states Canada and Mexico, if you then round up the ratio you get that we import 2/3rds of our consumption. In reality the US covers over 51% of demand just in the continental US (Not even counting off shore), which already debunks the media hyped trash.
