An Open Letter To Rush Limbaugh
Jon Alvarez ^ | 10/23/2006 | Jon Alvarez

Posted on 10/24/2006 5:24:00 AM PDT by Jon Alvarez

Dear Rush:

Pardon my French, but you’re full of s***! As I listened to your show last week, you chose to criticize and attack conservative Americans like myself who feel the Republican Party does not deserve to win in November. Rush, since when did you become such a shill for the GOP? Choosing the party over the base is a very disappointing move to this long time listener. I’m very disappointed in you, Rush Limbaugh, you’ve lost touch with the reality that is life for the common man in America. I heartily recommend you take pause and reconsider your programming strategy. Do you really want to attack those of us on the front lines versus liberalism? Rush, you yourself have become one of the elite of our society. Perhaps I need to give you some perspective, so you can better understand our anger, or at least mine.

Since 9/11, when I first began to really take notice of the goings on within this country, you’ve been to me, and probably many like myself, a source for both inspiration and knowledge. We had a lot of past history to catch up on relative to understanding what was currently taking place within the political spectrum. I’ve learned so much from you and have truly enjoyed your take on the different news stories of each day, particularly as I drove to sales appointments or toiled around the house. However, this new rant of yours has really pissed me off, particularly after all that I have done for the Republican Party. Labeling those conservative Americans like myself, who feel betrayed by the GOP’s lack of backbone relative to so many issues and it’s lack of adherence to the party platform, as “cut and run conservatives” tells me you’ve become nothing more than a shill for the Republican Party. Rush, you’ve become a sell out and thus, are full of s***.

Why can you not understand our anger? After 9/11, when our president embodied the strength that is America and took on those who would seek our destruction, I was inspired. So much so that I immediately joined the U.S. Army last year at the age of 39 when the age limit was raised to 40. After 9/11, I was one of those patriotic Americans who stood on street corners opposite the anti-American, anti-war activists who sought to undermine our nation’s efforts at the U.N. to defang the threat posed by Saddam Hussein. I was one of those Americans who drove to Washington, D.C. and NYC to stand up against A.N.S.W.E.R. and their ilk on the left in Hollywood who sought to embolden our enemies on the battlefield with their treachery on the streets. I withstood the insults, bottles, and spit of the so-called peace crowd during the 2004 GOP Convention in NYC as I stood proudly with my “Bush Must Win” sign during their march thru that city. I’ve done my part, Rush. I was a proud foot soldier.

So what has the GOP done to reward my unwavering support of their candidates and policies over the last five years? These corrupt and self-serving career politicians refuse to take a strong stance on defending our borders, treating Congressman Tom Tancredo like a pariah. In the New York Senate campaign versus Hillary Clinton, GOP support for her conservative opponent, John Spencer, has been virtually nil and nada. I’ve met John Spencer and I believe he has the right message for fixing that which ails our country. Regardless, he’s not Hillary. So why would the GOP hold back support? Could it be the party needs a political boogeyman like Hillary to keep the focus off of themselves and their true inability to lead?

The GOP has held power on many levels for some time now. So how have we been faring under the rule of the GOP? We’ve seen Republicans cross the aisle to join with Democrats to undermine our nation’s war effort. They refuse to get tough in defending marriage, only discussing it at election time. My taxes continue to increase, we’ve been treated to continued growth of government and government programs, and frankly Rush, more and more people are feeling the pinch. Here locally, in New York, my property and school taxes continue to rise, despite the reign of the GOP both on the local and state level. Sorry, Rush, but you and the politicians cannot possibly understand the trials and tribulations of ordinary citizens who worry day in and out over how they are going to pay their; taxes, college tuition, gas bill, utility bill, grocery bill, mortgage, car payment, health insurance, etc. while trying to live some semblance of a life and save for retirement. Simply put, we have the ultra rich making decisions that effect all of us yet have no concept of what we are going thru.

No, Rush, I’m not a cut and run conservative. I’d prefer to be labeled a scorched earth conservative. I am so fed up with the greed and corruption of these out of touch, spineless career politicians that I am planning to vote for the opponent of the incumbent in each race this November, regardless of political affiliation. The only way to send these people within the parties a message is for voters to kick them all out of office. Things most likely will need to get even worse before things can get better. Otherwise, I truly feel public anger will overflow and people will start to snap. I want us to win in Iraq, I want taxes and government spending to decrease, and I want to put an end to the charade that has become our current political system. Truly deserving candidates for office don’t stand a chance because of the presence of these career politicians and the way they have entrenched themselves in office.

What happened to you, Rush? If I’d thought anyone would understand our anger with the Republican Party, it’d be you! I feel so betrayed by the Republican Party. They are all over the board with regards to adherence to their platform. Here in New York, I decided to leave the party last year and became non-party affiliated due to my disgust over the state party’s catering to the Log Cabin Republicans. Rush, over a year later I still get tons of junk mail from them, seeking nothing but money. It’s sickening. It pisses me off every time I open my mail box, so much so, I always write notes objecting to GOP inaction and mail it all back in their own pre-paid envelope. Do the mailings stop as a result? Nope. The party has no care or concern on each and every level of the political landscape. Thus, voting each incumbent out of office is the only means to hopefully effecting peaceful reform of a broken political system within this country. Otherwise, I fear one day, reform may come about at the end of the barrel of citizens’ guns.

Oh, cram it with walnuts. If you want to be a complete fool and vote the dems into office, you go right ahead. That doesn't mean that the rest of us, Rush included, have to go along with you on your little sinking ship.

You should grow up and stop acting like a spoiled child.

Jon, it was only a short time ago that I was decamped on your own reservations. I share many of your complaints about the republicans. But, the reality is the dems or republicans will have political power.

The genesis for my political metanoia was I imagined turning on FOX and hearing Brit Hume say, "Today, Speaker Nancy Pelosi..."

LIke Fast Eddie, I am back. I will go to the polls early and often. Sure, the repulicans need new leadeship and a return to conservatism but putting into political power such lunatics as Nancy Pelosi make no sense

You are completely out of it, and threatening the lifes of my grandchildren. I am not happy with some things the GOP have done, but I KNOW the dims will do worse. If we 'cut and run', especially on the House (who has worked hard for conservatives), we only hurt ourselves. Both houses have done good with the narrow margins they have to work with - the dims have been NO HELP at all.

Dear Jon,

You are disenchanted. Big F'n deal. The time to make a difference is in the Primaries. If you are too stupid to realize that witholding your vote from the "most conservative" (not neccessarily Conservative candidate)is a vote for the most liberal, then go buy a dose of common sense.

Now go hold your nose, vote! and make a resolution to get active before the general election next time.

A real conservative as you claim to be, would have Rush 24/7

Seriously, why is that a pre-requisite for being a "real" conservative? Rush is good, I listen to him almost daily. By his own admission, though he is an entertainer. More politically enlightened, and with LOADS more common sense than about 99.9 of the entertainers out there; plus a good chunk of the country, too :-), but still an entertainer. Not the best yard-stick, IMHO.

Sounds like the words of a protege of Nancy Pelosi, Charlie Rangle, John Conyers, et. al.

If you want to vote for these characters, that is your right but the dumbest thing is not to vote or tell other people not to vote to teach the incumbents a lesson.

I am proud of my right to vote and I will never sit on my hands and not vote. That would be stupid. No candidate or party is perfect. The Republican party in congress has done a heck of a lot more for this country then the Democrats.

If you take your orders and talking points from the likes of Howard Dean, Chuchie Schumer, Raum Emanuel, et.al. that is your right but I don't intend to forfeit my right to vote to any of these socialists extremist!

Have a good day!

You are what you profess to hate! You want to vote independent, no matter what the outcome will be. You can not follow the though process long enough to see the inevitable outcome. Take a deep breath, breath slowly, and then start over. You are in need of clarity.

Thank you for your service.

But why throw it all away by electing democrats like Nancy Pelosi? Why abandon the House, where they SUPPORTED most of Tancrado's ideas and stopped amnesty and voted to start building the fence? Where they did tax cuts, and cut spending (a little tiny bit)?

I guess you can be mad at the republicans for not spending money on lost causes like Spencer, but given that we might lose other GOOD republicans if they don't get money, I support sending the party money to where it can actually get republicans elected.

You should of course send your OWN money to the people YOU want to see elected, like Spencer -- don't expect the national party to do your work for you, just like as a good conservative you don't expect the federal government to take care of things for you.

All politics are local. Get out and support your local republicans.

If you can't do that because you want to "get republicans out of power", you are a cut-and-run conservative. Because without Denny Hastert at the helm of the house, they would have PASSED the senate bill, Bush would have signed it, and we'd be doing amnesty NOW.

And that will be what happens next spring if you don't vote for republicans, ANY republican, in order to keep the republican leadership in place to stop amnesty.

And to stop the repeal of the tax cuts. The Senate went along with some cuts that they didn't "want" to, and if Pelosi sends over tax credits for people who don't pay taxes and vote Democrat, the senate will happily raise taxes on the "wealthy" (meaning people who work for a living) to give that money away to the democrat leaches of society.

And it will be YOUR fault if you stay home, or worse vote for a democrat or a 3rd-party candidate and allow the democrat in your district to win, giving the democrats control of the power of government, the power to destroy everything good that we have accomplished in the past 12 years.

Don't you think we've scared the bejeebers out of our elected officials? If you want to teach your child a lesson, you punish them, you don't put them up for adoption and look for new kids to replace them.

When the stakes are the survival of our country, you don't fart around with a punitive act like withholding votes. You suck it up and take the best alternative among the most likely choices.

A Democrat victory in November would set the stage for higher taxes and the subsequent decline of our economy, poorer security for our borders and our people, a collapse of the values that are already hanging by a thread, and a return of the policies that have punished the productive and moral for decades.

We cannot let the liberals win, even if it means holding our noses and voting for the candidate we dislike the least. We'll have to find another way to bring them in line. Destroying ourselves at the voting booth is not the way.
