BEIJING, Dec 18, 2006 (AP Worldstream via COMTEX News Network) --Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has set up a Communist Party at the headquarters of its China operations, news reports said Monday.
The move follows the success of China's government-sanctioned union body in organizing unions at Wal-Mart's 68 outlets in China.
The party branch was set up Saturday at Wal-Mart's China headquarters in the southern city of Shenzhen, the party newspaper People's Daily and the local newspaper Shenzhen Special Zone Daily said.

A discount Communist Party? Those Commies better keep their costs low and deliver on time or there will be trouble.
Coming soon to a Supercenter near you...but at least the prices are low!
Contrary to U.S. unions, Chinese unions do not declare war on low price seeking consumers.
JET and Tiger you won't believe this ROFL
...all the Walmarts I've ever been in (4 local ones) are messy, sloppy and sell mostly Chi-com made crap that falls apart in 15 minutes. This is just another good reason for me not to shop there.
Commie Wally ping :)
The Commies cannot keep thier fingers out of anything -- kinda like our liberals, hmmmm, interesting comparison, ain't it ??
What would a store (Wal-Marts) have to do with having a Communist headquarters?
I better read the whole story.
Yeah, but their members make $2 a day.
Not that I'm a fan of unions, but how is this different from slavery?
Don't see why they didn't have Wal-marts already. Everything there is already made in China. I can see it now: Support China, shop at Wal-Mart and buy Chinese!
That's been my experience, too. I went to a Grand Opening and the cashier couldn't make change or scan a gift card. Guess they didn't cover that in the training.
" sell mostly Chi-com made crap that falls apart in 15 minutes."
Every wal mart thread you guys start with that line.
I see the same products at Walmart as I see at the other stores.
Why do you guys keep trying to give the impression that Walmart doesn't sell the same old brand name goods as Target and everyone else?
Well, this should put an end to all the hassle they get from the American left. How much more of a good neighbor could they be when they invite the commies into their parlor. Paul Harvey is probably too senile to notice this caper, though.
They should give out a little red book of Mao. It seems that Wal-Mart is thoroughly had by Chicom.
ROFL that so true I should talk I am like any other American I shop at Wal mart that only place in my area has my Dove beauty products LOL!
My Wal Mart has the Olay and Dove beauty products that I used LOL!

Wal-Mart China sets up Chinese Communist Party branch in Shenzhen
Wal-Mart, one of the world's largest retailers, has set up Chinese Communist Party (CPC) branch in its Chinese headquarter in South China.
Wal-Mart China's headquarter in the southern city of Shenzhen, set up its CPC branch on Nov. 15, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported.
The establishment of the CPC branch in Wal-Mart China marks the success in promoting CPC organization work in foreign companies and will surely boost more CPC organizations in foreign-financed companies, Wang Suiming, head of the CPC Shenzhen City Committee's organization department.
This is another breakthrough made by the Fortune 500 company after it set up a trade union in its headquarter last month, Wang said.
In August, Wal-Mart set up its first party branch in the northeast city Shenyang.
According to the Constitution of CPC, every Party member must be organized into a branch, cell or other specific unit of the CPC to participate in the regular activities of the Party, and primary Party organizations are formed with at least three full CPC members.
Wal-Mart founded its first trade union in Jinjiang in July and since then at least 60 more Wal-Mart outlets in China have set up trade unions with more than 6,000 members, according to the All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU).
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. entered the Chinese market in 1996, and it now has 67 stores in 34 Chinese cities, with more than 30,000 employees.
The headline is misleading. It is doubtful that Walmart itself set up the Party cell, but the Party itself started the cell among the Walmart workers -- about par for the course in China where the Party has a constitutional monopoly on political power.
The "constitution" you speak of was imposed by a terrorist murderer who went by the name of Mao Tse-Dong.
Interesting thread. Interesting how many "conservatives" here are indifferent to the brutal antithesis of American Conservatism: Communism.
Add into that merchandise as far as the eye can see (I just needed a light bulb, a 1/4 inch bolt and some ranch dressing)
none of which are easily gotten in Wally World, and I agree with you.
Hey! It is a workers' paradise, right? Right? Wot? It's not?
This from the IHT, a NYT-owned company, even they say:
"This drive to unionize workers in foreign companies is strictly limited to expanding the membership of the state-sanctioned ACFTU.
"Under Chinese law, workers are barred from organizing independent unions and workers or activists seeking to challenge these rules are routinely persecuted and jailed, according to human rights groups.
"Senior Chinese officials have explained that workers in foreign companies needed the protection of the official union, which already boasts 150 million members. . .
"Labor market analysts and human rights groups say that the Chinese authorities want to establish union branches in foreign companies in an effort to tighten control over the work force in the rapidly expanding private sector."
Many of us have posted reports that labor unrest is widespread in China The worst is among the 150 million-strong "floating population" of migrant workers.
The IHT article says, "some experts suggest that an improved network of unions could assist the authorities in defusing protests that could potentially pose a threat to Communist Party rule."
It's a ruse folks.
Read the law at
http://www.acftu.org.cn/unionlaw.htm
Article 4 for example: "uphold the people's democratic dictatorship, uphold the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party, uphold Marxist-Leninist-Maoist-Deng Xiaoping Thought, uphold reform and opening up...."
Interesting thread. Interesting how many "conservatives" here are indifferent to the brutal antithesis of American Conservatism: Communism.
What do you have against low prices?
I can hear the announcements over their PA system now: "Toilet paper! Aisle Five! Standing room only!"
What are you, 14?
It was a joke.
Whether Wal-Mart sells Chinese junk, or somebody else sells it, when we buy Chinese products we are helping COMMUNIST China build it's military, and they may use it against us some day.
Remember when the Chinese downed an American aircraft over INTERNATIONAL waters, and kept Americans as hostages? The Chinese pilot was purposely trying to down it at great risk, and the risk was so great that the Chinese pilot ended up getting killed.
Then the Chinese harass us by holding American military as hostages for a long time. AGAIN, the American aircrat was over INTERNATIONAL waters.
China is our enemy, so why do they have a most favored trade status. Are our politicians NUTS?
Please don't take the Lord's name in vain.
Not with the Communist party itching to arrest them and cart them off to one of their Laogai slave camps...where they are forced to work 18 hours a day...and no pay at all...
Such a worker's paradise...LOL!
Thank God!
For the record, this article was posted in News forum, then moved to Chat for unknown reasons.
No, Chinese unions exist to keep the workers in line. If U.S. unions had the same purpose Walmart would have unionized years ago.
