Stossel brings some common sense to the healthcare debate

John Stossel's 20/20 special "Whose Body is it Anyway?: Sick in America" is a fantastic piece of television journalism in what I see as a pretty sad age for that profession. I've always liked Stossel, not because his views often align with my conservative sensibilities, but because he just makes sense. I think that's why liberals hate him so much.

There's a veritable mountain of good stuff in this piece, but his overriding point is that the individual should be in control of his or her health care, not the insurance companies and certainly not the government. Amen and amen!

Most of us have no need for ‘health care’ but the survival of socialism depends on convincing us that we do.

This program explains why going to Hillary’s socialized health care would not be a good idea. It exposes the fallacy of governmental health car.

Some people can’t afford a car!

I think Hillary should nationalize the auto industry and guarantee everyone a car for free.

It could look something like this: http://fotservis.typepad.com/photos/ddr_pre1989_east_germany/trabant.jpg

I had not seen Stossel’s program but I have to say that this is not a new concept. Some 40 years ago it was exactly what I used to have. It was called Hospitalization. There was no insurance paying for an office call and you did not run to the Dr. An emergency was just that—an emergency. Not a taxi-cab ride nor was the emergency care misused as a clinic. Pretty simple if you ask me—just bring back the old system and let insurance cover hospitalization. If you have hospitalization fine if you don’t well I guess you will have to find an alternative method to pay for your poor planning.

Just because we breathe does not mean we all get the $300 pill. That was what purchasing a home was all about when I was growing up. It is called ‘security.’ How far it went depended upon your means.

I know this is cold hearted but that IS what Stossel is promoting.

I had the priviledge of listening to Stoessel speak in the late 90’s at a social service convention in Milwaukee. He related how he was a liberal at the beginning of his career and how he quickly caught on to their ploys.

By the way, he was roundly “booed” by the liberal audience. I caught him on his way out, shook his hand, and thanked him for a job well done.

Stossel is indeed a brave man in a coward’s profession. I truly don’t understand how anyone can really listen to him and not see the common sense in what he says. I just hope Bush and the Republican candidates take the time to watch this report.
