Bush: All religions pray to 'same God'

President George Bush has repeated his belief all religions, "whether they be Muslim, Christian, or any other religion, prays to the same God" – an assertion that caused outrage among evangelical leaders when he said it in November 2003.

Bush made the statement Friday in an interview with Al Arabiya reporter Elie Nakouzi.

Al Arabiya is Al Jazeerah's top competitor in the Mideast.

As the president and Nakouzi walked from the Oval Office to the Map Room in the White House residence, Nazouki asked, "But I want to tell you – and I hope this doesn't bother you at all – that in the Islamic world they think that President Bush is an enemy of Islam – that he wants to destroy their religion, what they believe in. Is that in any way true, Mr. President?"

"No, it's not," said Bush. "I've heard that, and it just shows [sic] to show a couple of things: One, that the radicals have done a good job of propagandizing. In other words, they've spread the word that this really isn't peaceful people versus radical people or terrorists, this is really about the America not liking Islam.

"Well, first of all, I believe in an Almighty God, and I believe that all the world, whether they be Muslim, Christian, or any other religion, prays to the same God. That's what I believe. I believe that Islam is a great religion that preaches peace. And I believe people who murder the innocent to achieve political objectives aren't religious people, whether they be a Christian who does that – we had a person blow up our – blow up a federal building in Oklahoma City who professed to be a Christian, but that's not a Christian act to kill innocent people.

I’ll agree that there are at least roots of the monotheism in the Middle East, the Abrahamic religion, and influence between those, but there is no compromise and no way Hinduism and Buddhism has roots to those of the Abrahamic religion.

So all of those Millions and millions of Christians who believe that the God of Abraham is Christ are wrong? Or maybe it's the Jews who wrote The Book who are wrong?

No and no. Both the millions of Christians and the Jewish writers are and were correct. The God of the Old Testament is the God of the New Testament as well. Both sections of God's word fit together perfectly when properly understood.

Are you sure you meant to reply to my comment, or was it someone else's? I don't know how anyone could have gotten the impression you did from what I said in that post.

He has misunderstood most everything since he became president.

During the first term most of us thought things would get better. That he'd see the folly of allowing millions of Mexicans and South Americans, along with terrorists, stream across our southern border. But he didn't. He exacerbated a serious problem and made it a cancer that will forever eat away at the fabric of what was once America.

He likes to have the islamic clan in for a Ramadan evening dinner. (No pork dishes, of course.)

Now he says that the Savior worshipped by His followers will listen to the prayers of those who continue to murder us and plot our deaths or our slavery.

I'm sorry to say this Mr. Compassionate Conservative, but I don't like you very much! You have stabbed your constituents in the back, but you had a grin on your face.

NO MORE BUSHES. NO MORE CLINTONS AND NO DAMNED RUDYS!!!!!

“Bush: All religions pray to ‘same God’”

Duyba, please just be quiet. Till the end of your term.

And don’t give any more ammo to the folks who bash you for not being
well-read.

You are being illogical.

How is it possible for the Moslems to worship the same God as the Christians and Jews when the God of the Bible calls the Jews His Chosen People, and the god of the Koran calls for the extermination of the Jews?

Even if you think the Bible is just a silly little book filled with ancient superstitions, you can’t LOGICALLY believe that Yahweh, the God of the Bible, and “allah”, the god proclaimed in the Koran, are the same.

They are VASTLY different in so many ways.

Just because Isaac and Ishmael had the same father, Abraham, does NOT mean they worship the same god. This is a silly premise on its face.

LeGrande, YOU are the one who needs to read-up on what our Islamic enemies believe, because, among the things they believe are taught by “allah” are the extermination of the Jews, that those who don’t submit to their death cult are sub-human and suitable only for enslavemnet or destruction, and that Islam must be spread and imposed upon the whole world by violence.

Not our fault if somebody has a misguided view of God, is it? Doesn’t affect God at all does it? No? Good.

I would like to hear President Bush address this to determine if this is a accurate report of exactly what he said.

If he did say this, what happened? I remember reading his words that said Jesus was the only way to God not that many years ago.

It is like the invasion of the body snatchers. Is this really GW Bush? Is this the same guy? I am not serious in asking that tinfoily question, but it is strange if he has completely reversed his beliefs in Christ alone as Lord, which makes all other gods [idols] false.

LOL How many Jews do you think believe that Christ is the God of the Old Testament? Don't you think that the Jews would have a better understanding of the Old Testament than anyone else? They did write The Book you know.

Are you sure you meant to reply to my comment, or was it someone else's? I don't know how anyone could have gotten the impression you did from what I said in that post.

Maybe you just didn't think what you wrote through from a different perspective?

Bush is becoming a key component to ushering in the one world order. Once everyone believes all religions worship the same god, get prepared for seven years of hell on earth

***

How horrible that the unbelieving world saw Christians in America get behind this man twice - how confused and much further deceived they are left.

The church of Jesus Christ has to speak up loud and clear NOW and say that what GW is saying is not what the Bible says or what Christians believe but instead a false lie from the pit..

Jesus is the only way, His name the only name that can be called upon to be saved. Only One Way - Jesus!

I don’t believe that God follows our logic, besides, isn’t anything possible with God? People worship the way they want and believe who they want. There is no logical way to know who is right, is there?

You are being illogical.

Yes I know. Logic, reason and reality are not important when it comes to trying to understand what people believe.

How is it possible for the Moslems to worship the same God as the Christians and Jews when the God of the Bible calls the Jews His Chosen People, and the god of the Koran calls for the extermination of the Jews?

First the Muslims think that they are Gods Chosen people and that they got the birthright Through Abraham because Ishmael was the first born. Second the God of the Koran does not call for the extermination of the Jews. In fact it specifically exempts Jews and Christians, because they are also people of The Book, it does call for the extermination or enslavement of the other religions though.

Yes Islamic clerics call for the extermination of the Jews, but you won't find it in the Koran. And yes Islam means 'submission' and it can be imposed by the sword. Christianity and Judaism have been imposed by the sword too.

You make an error if you think that by using your own belief structure you can understand the Muslims. For instance, If you look at the 9/11 attack from the Muslim perspective it wasn't an attack on the US. It was simply spreading the faith by means of the sword. Osama proclaimed it a success because of the increase in conversions to Islam. Muslims actually do believe what they say, even though to us it is often gibberish, with no basis in reality. Their Religion is not based in reality.

Um, that’s the point of my post. Allah and God are not the same. Therefore, only one of these religions from the Abrahamic tradition can be true.

Yes Islamic clerics call for the extermination of the Jews, but you won't find it in the Koran.

Maybe not specifically, but the hadith teaches it, and they hold the hadith up as authoritative and talk this quote up all over the Islamic world -

"The Day of Resurrection will not arrive until the Muslims make war against the Jews and kill them, and until a Jew hiding behind a rock and tree, and the rock and tree will say: 'Oh Muslim, Oh servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him!'"
