Bush: All religions pray to 'same God'

President George Bush has repeated his belief all religions, "whether they be Muslim, Christian, or any other religion, prays to the same God" – an assertion that caused outrage among evangelical leaders when he said it in November 2003.

Bush made the statement Friday in an interview with Al Arabiya reporter Elie Nakouzi.

Al Arabiya is Al Jazeerah's top competitor in the Mideast.

As the president and Nakouzi walked from the Oval Office to the Map Room in the White House residence, Nazouki asked, "But I want to tell you – and I hope this doesn't bother you at all – that in the Islamic world they think that President Bush is an enemy of Islam – that he wants to destroy their religion, what they believe in. Is that in any way true, Mr. President?"

"No, it's not," said Bush. "I've heard that, and it just shows [sic] to show a couple of things: One, that the radicals have done a good job of propagandizing. In other words, they've spread the word that this really isn't peaceful people versus radical people or terrorists, this is really about the America not liking Islam.

"Well, first of all, I believe in an Almighty God, and I believe that all the world, whether they be Muslim, Christian, or any other religion, prays to the same God. That's what I believe. I believe that Islam is a great religion that preaches peace. And I believe people who murder the innocent to achieve political objectives aren't religious people, whether they be a Christian who does that – we had a person blow up our – blow up a federal building in Oklahoma City who professed to be a Christian, but that's not a Christian act to kill innocent people.

I have no problem fighting over "values" i.e. keeping someone from power who thinks it is OK to kill or beat you if you don't have a beard or wear a skirt too short.

I have a big problem fighting over "theology" killing people because they believe something different about God including disbelief.

The President is absolutely right to keep the "war on terror" from becoming a war about religion.

What’s important is not my concept of God, which can only be limited, but how I come to God. If I come through love for all, I will live. If I come through jihad, I will perish.

C’mon. Put yourself in his position with his responsibilities ... would you have answered that Muslims pray to a false God?

It is becoming more clear that Pres. Bush doesn't celebrate the same faith in God and Jesus that I do, if he thinks that "all religions pray to the same God."

That is heresy.

My just God doesn’t ignore the people that pray to him. I see no reason why He would answer any prayers that are addressed to Satan.

> I think it’s really more like the guy that wrote the
> Koran, commands his minions...

According to any Moslem, however secularized or radicalized, “allah” wrote the Koran through his “prophet”, Mohammed.

If you haven’t already, you should read it.

It’s a bloody screed if ever there was one.

Basically, “allah” gives the unbelieving three options.

1. Be Converted

2. Be enslaved

3. Be killed

The moslem must do more good than evil, and the only guarantee that the moslem has to enter “paradise” is martyrdom, which is defined in the Koran as to die while killing infidels.

Again, the ONLY guarantee of an afterlife in paradise for a Moslem, is to die while killing infidels.

Other than that, there are NO guarantees that your good will outweigh your bad.

Now read the New Testament.

2. (Yahweh) God commends His love toward us, in that, while we were yet ninners, Christ died for us.

3. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ (Yahshua ha Messhiach), and you shall be saved.

4. For by GRACE are you saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; It is a GIFT of (Yahweh) God, NOT OF WORKS,
lest any man should boast.

And MOST of all;

1. Where the spirit of the Lord (Yahweh) is, there is Liberty.

We have freedom of religion in this country BECAUSE it was founded on the CHRISTIAN belief in FREE CHOICE. The Spirit of the Lord was indeed present at the founding of this nation, and that is why there was LIBERTY.

To the degree that Yahweh God is excluded and rejected, our liberties will be taken away.

Yahweh is NOT AT ALL the same God as “allah”.

This is so unlikely that I question the source. I’m not buying the story, al Arabya. I think you’re as dependable as Dan Rather. Are you related?

“Terrorism” is a tactic.

To say “War on Terror” is stupid, it’s like saying a “War on Bliztkrieg” or “War on Kamikaze”...ignoring the real threat.

What Bush missed right after 9-11 is that we were hit by JIHADISTS.

His “Axis of Evil” did not even contain Wahhabists.

George Bush has gotten us into a HUGE mess in Iraq, and still refuses to believe that Jihad and Shariah our the true threats.

Mr. President, if you wish to pray to Satan (aka the demon calling itself ‘allah’) you are free to do so.

As for me and my house, we will serve the One True God, manifested in human form as Jesus Christ, Who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, and NOBODY goes to the Father (not even you sir) except by HIM.

Remember that on Judgment Day.

The Hindus have many gods so are these the same God I pray to?NO!

This is such a PC/mush statement made by our president and I wonder if this is from an un-rehearsed speach that he just read without thinking.

While I agree that there is only one God, I am less convinced that the Muslim view of God has anything to do with the universal concept of doing good in the world as homage to an all good and loving God. Western civilization, based on Judeo-Christian values, has evolved a world view that individual freedom ,including the freedom of belief and tolerance, is a God given right. The Muslim view that it is a duty to convert the whole world to Islam runs very contrary to that concept.

The whole statement is an OXY-MORON.
Jesus in the Antithesis of Mohammed.

He's also a God of justice, which requires punishment. His future return to earth will be all about both.

And be careful - you just separated the "Jewish" God from the "Christian" God, when in fact they are one and the same. Even more specifically, He chose Israel long before including all of us - we are grafted into THEIR tree. Read Romans 11. He was their God first and only by His grace we can join the family of Israel.

McVeigh professed to be an agnostic, not Christian. When he was about to be executed, he hedged his bets and allowed a priest to see him, but that’s about it. Only God knows where he is now.

This level of pandering is absolutely reprehensible.

This PC stuff gives me a stomach ache. Same God? Give me a break, junior. I would not like to answer to the real God for a statement like that. Bush has nearly destroyed the Republican party. This idiotic statement should just about bury it. Just like his “guest worker” speeches before that last election, perhaps he has a “Islamic fundamentalists and Christian fundamentalists” worship the same God speech. These speeches are guaranteed to lose seats.

Some of his actions and comments over the past few years have made me QUITE ashamed that I voted for him TWICE!

That said, there is no way in H I would have voted for a democrat....ever.

but I digress.
W has LOST IT imo.

Last time I looked the Christian God and the Jewish God are one in the same. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow and did not change character after Incarnation.

The Jewish God is one of incredible patience and forbearance with His people, and the Christians too often for get that our God is a God of judgement as well, THey are after all one in the same

What do you mean, “god of revenge”? What makes you think that?

And are not the Jewish God and Christian God the same? Who is Jesus’s father if not the Jewish God?
