Gary Kamiya's 15 year old son has been advised by his father that pot is healthier than alcohol, but he should wait a while:
"But you can abuse any drug, including marijuana. It's probably better to wait a while before you try it. Like 'til you're 17 or 18, or in college. The longer you wait, the better."
Regarding other drugs, acid is scary, cocaine is expensive, speed is bad and heroin is addictive.
"But some other drugs aren't as benign as dope," I went on. "Hallucinogens can be really powerful and scary, and cocaine makes you really wired and is bad for your health. Plus people blow all their money on it. And speed is terrible -- don't ever do that. I've never tried heroin, but it's extremely dangerous and addictive."
And sex? No problem, just don't get a disease and avoid getting the girl pregnant.
This family lives in the San Francisco area and Gary writes for Salon. If his son wants to push to boundaries he needs to shoot heroin while having unprotected sex with a diseased hooker.

Parents are supposed to be parents not buddies. I've never seen it work when a parent is more like a friend. Children need boundaries & rules IMHO. ~Pandora~

What is this father's worst nightmare? Coming home and finding that the kid has been posting on FR and has a poster of Ronald Reagan on his wall. He'll try intervention, but before he can get back control, his boy will join the Marine Corps.

So the guy sends his kid to a school that puts condoms on dildos in 8th grade (and the "teachers" joke to the girls about which dildos are the best ones in case the girls want to steal one), he does pot in front of his kid (don't worry he's at a concert), drives under the influence and decides to have "the talk" with the kid when the kid is 15 and he, the dad, is high!
So the lib is an idiot on many fronts:
He brags about the sexism in the classroom (and doesn't even recognize it!)..see how liberated the teachers are...they even joke with the girls about dildos (why didn't the teachers tell the boys about stealing the dildo? It is San Francisco after all)
He has The Talk with the kid when the kid is 15 and has already been taught by the school....way late to the party dad! he then writes that he wants to be a dad not a friend...sure. Too bad about that, actions speak louder than words, thing. And he is high when he decides to have The Talk. Way to make your kid think your words are important and should be listened to "dad".
He drives while "extremely stoned"...endangers his kid and others. He wouldn't want to take any "striking highly conscious moral poses or laying down abstract lines" after all what's the worst that could happen? A dead kid, a dead bystander, a fatherless child...a teen who learns that driving high isn't so bad.
These two lines:
"I just prefer to be who I am and let them learn organically." and "But there's no reason to be absolutist about your relativism."
Mean absolutely nothing...just a lot of loony liberal linguistics so he, this man with a child, doesn't have to parent. Pseudo parenting is so much easier than that oppressive, moral crap and isn't such a downer man.
He wants to tell his kid "to be a good person, try to make the world a better place" but he wants to do it by teaching that morals are relative (then how does the kid know what a good person is?) and acting badly (driving high, doing illegal drugs, being a hypocrite)...
Good thing the libs are on the one child/only replace ourselves kick; less children will be hurt that way.
