New Yorkers are seething over Sen. Charles Grassley's comments Wednesday about Rudy Giuliani's withdrawal from the GOP presidential contest, according to the New York Daily News.

Famed columnist Jimmy Breslin has declared Grassley a "moron."

Guardian Angel founder Curtis Sliwa, described as an "ultra-New Yorker," said of Grassley: "I've seen Grassley before. He wears polyester, waffle-weave, flame-retardant pants that look like they survived the high waters."

New Yorkers pay Iowans' FEMA bills, Sliwa said, apparently thinking of the 1993 flood. "He wants us to come there, drink ethanol, block the hogs and promise farm subsidies and pander."

Block the hogs?

Breslin, along with the "moron" remark, said Grassley is "another one of those low-IQ loudmouths."

Finally, the Daily News said that Village Voice columnist Michael Musto called Grassley's comments "offensive" and added, "There are a lot of coded bigotries built into that remark. This just cements the idea that New York City should secede from the union."

Whew. Who knew New Yorkers were such delicate, oversensitive types?
