Why is quitting smoking so hard?

We all know that many smokers are aware of health risks that come along with smoking cigarettes. We also know that that some of them are seeking support and help for their habit. I don’t want you to understand me as some kind of a guru who is making smart statements on how to quit smoking cold turkey in 15 hours for free. No no. My idea for smoking cigarettes is very similar to yours. You see, I’m aware that smoking is a nice hobby, in fact it’s irreplaceable, it can be your best friend, so why quit smoking anyway?

Smoking cigarettes is part of you, of your personality, of your everyday life. I know your questions, the most obvious are: how can I gather strength to find a way to quit smoking? am I a person who can stop smoking cold turkey?, am I missing something, are there any smoking cessation methods that I don’t understand?

Now let me ask you a question but please think thoroughly. Can you not think of a blue color? Don’t think of a blue color. Just don’t think. Please :).

Why did you imagine a blue color? Because your brain works in pictures. The word don’t, is a concept not a picture. For your brain that word simply doesn’t exist in that thought. In a split second you first imagine the blue color, than an action word, in this case “don’t”.

Your brain work in pictures, and your focus determine your reality. Your focus can be triggered by questions. What type of questions you ask yourself is the way you shape your destiny. If your goal is to quit smoking naturally, than you should focus yourself on the quitting smoking benefits. For example, am I going to breed deeper as a non-smoker? Is my energy level going up or down? How important is my energy level? Am I going to look better, healthier? Am I born with a cigarette?

Maybe some questions are funny but they can help you quit smoking. You have to focus on the other “color”. If you are seeking for natural nicotine patch, this is one way. Stopping smoking cigarettes is a big change in your life; it can trigger a positive momentum which will make you more fulfilled and happier.

Let me guarantee you something, if you are reading this article, you have achieved a lot more than 95% of the smokers who are seeking quitting smoking support. Most of them are researching methods for quitting smoking cigarettes for about 2 min. Many of them believe that some day, they will stop smoking, scientist will find a nicotine patch that will stop cravings immediately and painfully.

Don’t stop researching, the answer will find you, when you have all the information and when you’re ready. You can read my guide for quitting smoking cigarettes for more detailed information on the step by step process that can help you, and please don’t forget to share this article if you find it useful.

For example, am I going to breed deeper as a non-smoker?

Now that's a benefit I never thought of! Seriously, though, I haven't been able to quit and your points are good ones.

I am an introvert in an extroverted profession so use cigarettes as an excuse to get out of the office and away from people for 15 minutes in the morning and afternoon. I need that break or I get drained and very irritable.

I quit smoking going on six years ago. I did it by not smoking anymore.

I got up for work one Monday morning and decided not to smoke anymore. I bought a pack, just in case my will power wasn't strong enough and carried that pack in my coat pocket for 2 weeks, never opening it.

It was incredibly difficult and I put on 25 lbs, but I think it was worth it. I could pick up the habit in an instant so I dare not even have one cigarrette.

Best wishes to those who are trying to quit. You have to really want to do it.

if I’m pressed to solve a programming problem (I install/program telephone switches), my way to easily find the answer is the same. I walk away, clear my brain, have a smoke or two, let the subconcious work on it, and I usually have a eureka moment where the answer becomes clear...could I do that without smokin? who knows...but it works for me..

Because you are addicted to smoking.

I quit after 10 years of smoking back in 1972. Quit cold turkey and never had any further desire. If you can tolerate this medicine you might want to look into it. I think it is the main ingredient of Zyban. It was like the German army marched through my mouth overnight. I couldn’t even stand the thought of smoking afterwards. Never wanted to smoke again and I had tried everything but I too was addicted.

I'm trying to quit after today.

I quit for four years, but started again after the hurricane, and have had a bunch of yo-yo quits the last year or so.

If any Freepers want to join me in quitting, let's kick this nasty habit!

One thing that I find helps with a quit is to use a quitmeter to keep track of how long you've quit, how much money you've saved, etc.

It’s easy to quit, I’ve done it dozens of times.

It's really this simple. If you want to quit....you will. If you don't want to quit....you won't. It's all up to you.

I quit cold turkey after 33 years. I was smoking four packs a day. That's about $20.00 a day here in California (today's cost). That was 19 years ago or about $140,000.00 dollars ago.

I just got mad because it was such a pain in the ass habit. I had to have a smoke when I got up. I had to have one before I went to bed. I had to have one after eating and another after sex. I had to smoke while driving....I had to smoke while reading....I had to smoke while.........you get the idea.

Smoking was the reason I existed and it seems everything I did revolved around having a smoke or preparing to have one. When ever I entered a strange room.....I looked for the ashtrays. It was a total pain in the ass!

One day I got mad because of all the hassle, pulled the 1/3 full pack out of my pocket.....crumpling them up as I drove down the highway....and threw them out the window. Those were seven smokes no one would ever have. I had decided to quit. Do not set a date. Do not finish the pack. Just quit!

If you really want to enjoy quitting....put the $20.00 dollars a day in a savings account. No one saw me toss the pack out the window....so I didn't get a ticket either.

Had a huge blood clot after minor surgery, spent a week in the hospital. Had time to think about it.

The clincher? Next time I might have to lie there with a catheter.

Done deal - no more cigarettes for me.

Gotta quit this summer before I buy a new car in the fall. I’ll probably use Chantix if none of my friends on it now commit suicide.

Chantix works very well. Eventually, your cigs will taste like greasy porkchops on an ashtray.

It also helps my stock in Pfizer.
