Where's the Fall?
3/15/08 | Daniel II

"We are the change that we seek… We are the ones we've been waiting for!"

“I’m asking you to believe!”

“Join the movement!”

“We are the chosen ones!”

In appropriating the language of the Bible, what Obama really is saying is, “I am the change that you seek… I am the one you’ve been waiting for.” “I am the chosen one.”

It’s like when Philip found Nathanael in the first chapter of John and told him, “We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote—Obama of Somewhere, the son of Somebody.” Nathanael responded, “Somewhere! Can anything good come from there?”

But for many an observant Jew and not a few Christians, such messianic utterings border on, if not actually cross the line of, blasphemy.

The Jews are God’s “chosen people,” and they have been waiting for the Messiah for thousands of years. Christians already believe the Messiah came and died for them two thousand years ago. And herein lies the crux; one day he is supposed to come, either for the first time or the second. Present day Jews reject Jesus as the Christ because, according to them, he didn’t fulfill all of the prophesies. Christians, on the other hand, believe that he and he alone is the Christ and have been warned repeatedly that false Christs would come, many being deeply concerned about the arrival of an Anti-Christ. “By their fruits you will recognize them.”

How, then, can an upstart come along and fool so many people into believing his rhetorical, religious nonsense?

Outside of a natural constituency of his fellow African-Americans, reluctant at first, but now mostly on board, one needs to look no further than to the very people who are attracted to this man: the very young and the highly educated.

The highly educated, the pseudo-intellectuals among us, have spent so much time quibbling about every ‘jot and tittle’ in the scriptures, that any meaning found in holy writ has been sucked dry so that the nourishment it used to provide for the soul is now entangled with the so-called superior intellect of politicized science and present day leftist politics. They have even reduced Jesus of Nazareth to just a few pithy quotes, rejecting his larger discourses as the inventions of his disciples and latter day followers. We are bombarded with the History Channel’s claims that many books that should have been included in the Bible were left out for one illegitimate reason or another, leaving the vast majority confused as to whether the orthodoxy of our present day canon can be trusted. It’s either that, or “that’s just your interpretation,” or “it’s been translated so many times it can’t be trusted.” It hasn’t. Scholars still go back to the earliest manuscripts that can be found and bring the ancient tongues into the current vernacular of our modern languages.

And where are these people now? Why, you will find them in our schools and institutions of higher learning teaching our children. The same young people who have been “geared toward the average rather than the exceptional,” as Ian Anderson wrote in his epic poem Thick as a Brick, and who would not recognize the warnings found in the ancient texts even if someone showed them book, chapter and verse. How badly do they want to take your children into their fold? You need look no further than a recent California court decision that makes it illegal to home-school your children unless you have teaching credentials.

But what happens when someone applies messianic texts to himself? Matthew and Mark say that, “even the elect will be fooled—if that were possible.”

So why are they being deceived? Mainly because the church has failed to be what it is supposed to be. Instead of reaching out, teaching sound fundamental theology and training people in godliness, many have behaved as though they were nothing more than a social club. Fractured to the nth degree, with competing claims as to who has a corner on the truth (they all do—just ask them … or consult their by-laws), how can one decide between the 500+ denominations, and non-denominations and inter-denominations that surround the typical American? I grew up Catholic and outside of a few stories such as David and Goliath and the Good Samaritan, I simply wasn’t taught the scriptures until I picked them up and read them for myself while I was in college. I did so because my freshman year English teacher, one of the effete elite, said that you couldn’t truly consider yourself fully educated until you had read Shakespeare, specifically Hamlet, and, surprise, the New Testament (I seriously doubt she would say that today). I have grappled with that book and its older counterpart ever since. Now, however, having read through it dozens of times, it is easy for me to see when a church has its head up its collective butt. It’s also easy to see who the knuckleheads among us are. There is no greater teacher of human nature and the human condition in all the world than the Bible.

The same can be said of the “Greatest Generation.” They came back from the most horrific war ever perpetrated on humanity and bowed their heads to God, thanking him for being allowed to live in the freedom for which they so desperately fought. But they, too, failed to “teach their children well” and instead left it up to government schools, schools that no longer teach history or religion or anything that might circumvent their agenda of control. What started in the sixties when the baby-boomers reached physical maturity has reached fruition in their middle age with their spiritual death. Of this generation it can be said: “After that whole generation had been gathered to their fathers, another generation grew up, who knew neither the Lord nor what he had done for [ America ].”

But God cannot be mocked. When your “mouth lays claim to Heaven,” when you set yourself up to be the savior of mankind, you are treading on his exclusive domain.

Consider when Herod delivered a public address to the people in the book of Acts. The people shouted, “This is the voice of a god, not of a man.” Because Herod did not give praise to God, an angel of the Lord struck him down with worms and he died. Pissed-off tapeworms or some nefarious nematodes, your guess is as good as mine.

Or review the story of King Nebuchadnezzar in Daniel. So full of himself was he that a holy one of heaven came down and cut down the tree that was symbolic of the king, leaving but a stump. He lived like an animal out in the wild until seven years passed, being restored only after he acknowledged that “Heaven rules.”

In the same vein, Obama’s followers shower him with praise reserved for God alone.

Here are some examples taken from obamamessiah.blogspot.com:

"Barack Obama is our collective representation of our purest hopes, our highest visions and our deepest knowings . . . He's our product out of the all-knowing quantum field of intelligence."

-- Eve Konstantine

"This is bigger than Kennedy. . . . This is the New Testament. I felt this thrill going up my leg. I mean, I don't have that too often. No, seriously. It's a dramatic event."

-- Chris Matthews

"Obama's finest speeches do not excite. They do not inform. They don't even really inspire. They elevate. . . . He is not the Word made flesh, but the triumph of word over flesh . . . Obama is, at his best, able to call us back to our higher selves."

-- Ezra Klein

"We're here to evolve to a higher plane . . . he is an evolved leader . . . [he] has an ear for eloquence and a Tongue dipped in the Unvarnished Truth."

-- Oprah Winfrey

"I would characterize the Senate race as being a race where Obama was, let's say, blessed and highly favored. That's not routine. There's something else going on. I think that Obama, his election to the Senate, was divinely ordered. . . . I know that that was God's plan."

-- Bill Rush

We have people fainting at his rallies, even some claiming that he has healed people in the crowds.

Now notice who Obama is not fooling. "Those who know their God," members of the “Greatest Generation,” the churchgoing public, observant Jews, the realists among us, and those who actually work with their hands for a living, having insulated themselves against ‘high-falutin’ rhetoric they do not respond to the orgasm of the crowd and the smell of the greasepaint.

Have we reached a tipping point? Are there more elites and young people among us than those who reject the superficial, the light-weights, the inexperienced, and the false-Messiahs? We can only hope that, as in the past, these young people will find something else to do on Election Day, arrogant in the thought that their man is going to win in a landslide so ‘he won’t need my vote.’

I grew up with a man whose father was a United States astronaut who flew to the moon. I have met the greatest pilots and aviators that the world has ever produced, men like Alan Shepard, Gordon Cooper, Neil Armstrong, ‘Buzz’ Aldrin, ‘Pete’ Conrad, and ‘Dick’ Gordon. At the time, every one of them considered themselves to be the greatest pilot/aviator who ever lived. Every one of them had the ego of a god. I suppose John McCain at one time was no different, having himself been a naval aviator.

But John McCain has spent his 'seven years' in the wilderness, his ego cut down to size, stripped of his dignity and humiliated as few have been. He has a phrase that he uses often, “in all humility.” A temper no doubt, but how can one not get angry at the crassness of today’s society, at the brazen orgulosity found in the media of today, a society and media that worships celebrity at ever step, one that pays hundreds of thousands of dollars for a baby picture of so and so, one that impugns motive and integrity and goes out of its way to tear the hero down?

And Hillary? Her self-imposed exile in the US Senate was as calculated a step any politician has ever taken. Biding her time and hoping the public’s well known short-term memory loss and collective amnesia would gloss over the scandals of her husband’s administration, she threw her lot in the ring at what she thought was the perfect moment. Not too late and not too soon. But much to her chagrin, if it weren’t for that same upstart she would have sewn up the Democrat nomination by now. Like the man who had his house cleaned of an evil spirit only to have it re-occupied by seven demons more evil than itself, let’s hope that Obama and Clinton don’t team up.

To be sure, Clinton ’s been through some hard knocks, but she met them with fierce resistance and refused to let them humble her as evidenced by the fact that she is still tilting at a “vast right-wing conspiracy.” While she may have not bowed down to Baal, she worships at the altar of power. Even today, the carpet-bagger from New York has at least a quarter of the population fooled. Thank God she’s not pretending to be the Messiah.

Obama, however, has yet to spend any time in the wilderness, not even for a good forty day fast. He has not been tempered by defeat, loses that teach the mind humility and cause the heart to ponder one greater than oneself. Instead, he’s of the temperament that if you look good you play good; symbolism over substance. So he’s chosen some of the greatest symbols of all time, the symbols found in Judeo-Christian literature, expunged of their substance. His hope is for change and unity and Nirvana here on earth; a utopian society that has escaped all mankind since the beginning of civilization. But well grounded people and people of God are under no illusions. They know that evil exists and can reach great heights. They know, too, that not only can individuals be evil, they can fool societies that would become complicit in their most horrendous acts, if only by looking away as it occurs all around them.

With a murky background, he shields himself in the language of the Bible, as if that will thwart any investigation into his past. Unfortunately for him, however, his brand of Christianity is severely suspect. Galatians would say that “there is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ.” For Obama and his church, there is only the African, so much so that his church embraces the hate-filled man, Louis Farrakhan. Loathing his Caucasian ancestry, he is part of a church that rejects a fundamental principle of what the church is supposed to be, a “house of prayer for all nations.” In doing so his church has instead become “a synagogue of Satan.”

Furthermore, he conveniently ignores what God told Jeremiah, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,” and what David says in the Psalms, “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made,” supporting any and all abortions, even to the point that if an aborted child survives outside the womb it can be left to die.

Does it stop there? Not at all, as he promotes homosexuality and same-sex marriage even though both the Old and New Testaments thoroughly condemn it.

Yet, he would have you believe that not only is he Christian, he is “The one that we have been waiting for.”

As at the end of the time of the Judges, we seem to have no real leaders. “Everyone does as they see fit” with “freedom” becoming the watchword. With restless hearts we glom onto the latest and greatest fad or fashion, thinking that our “lives consist in the abundance of our possessions.” Such an anchorless mob is easily fooled, shouting out for a king, any king. “Lead us, but don’t do anything that might offend anybody; and for God’s sake, don’t make us believe anything that might offend anybody!”

But Jesus perfectly described what would happen to such a man, a man whose house is built on the sands of public opinion, a man who would set himself up as our savior. His house will “fall with a great crash and its destruction will be complete.” Of him the proverb is true, “Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.”

Lately we’ve seen cracks in Obama’s armor as the fourth estate has finally started doing its job. Of course, they themselves had to be mocked before they got off their dead asses. Let’s hope it continues.

And let’s hope the fall happens before and not after Obama gets his hands of the reigns of the most powerful nation on earth.

I wrote this last Saturday and sat on it for a week, not sure where I might publish it. The last 72 hours, however, have seen some dramatic changes in the wind regarding Obama's Pastor, and that fall I've been waiting for may well be on its way. I've been a long time lurker here at FR -- about four years -- and while I know you guys hate vanities, especially from noobies, the only real requirements I saw about them is that they be well crafted and kept to a minimum.

Howdy, n00b. This the stealth talking points from the clintoon campaign? Think this will ‘inflame’ conservatives so they get out in front of this poser's racism giving the Rodham-rodent cover? This racism black man will only be done in if the media decide to abandon their sicko sycophancy for him and his leftist ideology. If conservatives hit this one too hard the dnc will throw Barry HUSSEIN Obama under the bus and successfully blame it all on conservative White people. Tread carefully, grasshopper.

BTW, well written! I'm of the notion that conservatives need to keep hitting at Barry's defense of infanticide and leftists social programs, and leave the racism cannonades to the Rodham-rodent's henchghouls. Bob Beckel (on H&C last night) proved the dnc will paint this exposing of Barry's racism roots as anything but a disqualifier. Beckel's obsequious defense of the racist pig was disgusting, but will resonate with democrap voters.

O’Bama is a quick thinker on his feet. Hillary!08 is not. Both will bore us to oblivion by the time of the general election.

It is well written, reasonably argued and certainly as valid as anyone else’s guess as to what providence may bring next.

I had a woman bring me a lawnmower one summer.

She had been persuaded to change the oil and drain the gas the previous summer by a trusted friend who had moved.

When she came here, I discovered that the engine was seized up and the crankcase was empty.

Her friend had forgotten to tell her that when you remove the old, you must replace it with new and she had filled the gas tank and started to mow.

I’ll believe the Bama One when I see the new.
