"If I’ve ever seen a mayhaw, it was called by another name. Funny how everywhere has it’s own names for stuff."

From what I understand, mayhaws grow only in the deepest part of the south, from Florida over through south Louisiana, in sandy swampy areas. Planted mayhaw orchards are becoming an economic force in other parts of Louisiana that have the right soil to keep them happy. These two websites offer some info: LSU AgCenter and Fruits & Exotics

I recently found the “fruit” from a passionflower vine on the sidewalk in the neighborhood. Stuck the very dried out item in a flowerpot and to my surprise it’s now going wild. Have gotten into dwarf fruit trees (fig, nectarine, oranges, avocado, lime, apple, pomegranate) in the backyard. Everyone else in Southern California seems to have trees full of fruit - with all these trees I can’t miss (hopefully).

Hi Gabz!

Please add me to your garden ping list.

I hope things are looking up for you. We’re dealing with 3 inches of snow and 30 degree temps today. I’m glad I pulled up my dahlias yesterday that I planted a week ago. :(

Here’s a link to one of my favorite gardening links. As a bonus, the guy is pretty much a conservative.

Thanks for the welcome. It rained here today, which is good for the newly-seeded sections of the lawn.

I have been needing a little rain. It was supposed to rain yesterday so I held off watering the garden. Cloudy all day but no rain. I kept watching the WetherUnderground composite radar and every time the rain headed my way it went either north or south or just dissipated when it reached me. Then about 7:30 last night it started raining. A nice slow soaking rain with a couple of moderate bursts of heavier rain. My garden just loved it!

This morning when I checked the garden it looked like my zucchini plants had doubled in size over night!

Another inch of snow overnight. Ground still frozen. 15 May is the usual safe date for setting out plants. Didn’t happen last year.

Yes, this region is supposed to be most sensitive to Global Warming. In all honesty, haven’t seen a sign of Global Warming here since 1994. It might be over.

My wife found this 35mm slide of me. It was taken about the same time frame as the pictires I posted earlier in this thread.

It was when we lived in Barstow, Calif. and quite a clash of environments when compaired to the pictures at Aunt Dell's place. No wonder my Mother loved to go up there! LOL

Thanks for the head’s up! Cloudy here and dead calm, but my head is thumping so the pressure is changing. It’s real dark looking towards Havelock, but the rain usually follows the Neuse river and goes out into the sound.

I think I remember having that same walker thingy! Mine was red, and in much worse shape than yours, but I seem to recall the wooden handle on the tray. No wonder your mom liked to go to your aunt’s! I couldn’t stand that plain flat, sterile landscape!

If you can believe it I was standing in our front yard! I had never seen these pictures until my wife started to go through my Father's box of pictures and slides. And I do not remember that stroller at all. I don't remember Barstow or the desert. LOL
