Republicans still do not get it
The Conservative Revolution ^ | 5-19-08 | Brendan Steinhauser

The Republicans in Congress continue to baffle me. They are spending all of their time trying to use the marketing tool of “re-branding” the party, while at the same time they refuse to vote against terrible public policy. The most recent example is the disastrous farm bill that the Senate passed overwhelmingly. The House has already passed the bill, and although President Bush will veto it, Congress will likely override the veto.

As long as the Republicans in Congress pay lip service to conservatism while voting like liberals, they deserve to lose in November. Those leading the Republicans down the wrong path include Senator McConnell, Rep. Thad McCotter and Rep. Roy Blunt. They should be replaced by principled conservatives like Senator Jim DeMint, Rep. Paul Ryan and Rep. Jeb Hensarling. The party will lose 20 seats in the House, 6 in the Senate and the presidency if it continues to vote for liberal policies. Conservatives should put more pressure on the Republican leadership in Congress and not buy into all this “re-branding” talk until they actually begin to advance conservative ideas.

Getting out while the getting is good.

Contrary..I’m afraid that THEY DO get it...its us that don’t..

In my mind, I keep coming back to what happened to Tom Delay.....

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1802383/posts

Washington is so jammed with parasites looking for a teat...that ANY organized opposition-IOW any Conservatives-will be run out of town . Period. This, folks, is a far BIGGER problem than just one with the Republican leadership.

Pay attention the the Farm Bill that just passed. Its not the average American Joe that is demanding handouts that’s driving the bus here.

It’s any large organization that has the cash to buy a few K St. lobbyists to twist congress’ arm. The boys on Capitol Hill that are unresponsive to said arm twisting...well these organizations can afford to make sure they’re replaced in the next election cycle-and in fact, with what the new boys will send them legislatively will far more than make up for the cost of replacing a recalcitrant congresscritter. We American’s have a far bigger problem on our hands here than any of us could possibly imagine in our worst nightmare.

In other words....the corporate money driving this scam is so great and powerful...that politicos feel the need to play ball. Or else.

I like him as well. I also like Wayne Stayskals cartoons but for a different reason though.

If McCain wants the support of conservatives, now and through November, then he needs to do what every politician seeking the support of any given voting bloc routinely does, and meet their specifically vocalized needs to such an extent as to earn said support.

McCain has made me very angry in the past, especially on immigration (I can't for the life of me figure out why he's so deluded on this topic), but to his credit, he voted against this POS Farm Bill. He also vocally opposed ethanol subsidies, while campaigning in Iowa. That takes guts.

McCain's fiscal conservatism is beginning to win me over, I must say.

But I'm still very concerned about his stances on immigration and foreign policy.

The GOP’s agenda is to expand it's voter base by appeasing the socialist left and conservatives be damned.

Baloney. The GOP couldn't care less about "expanding it's voter base." The GOP is interested in the same old that the 'rats are interested in...incumbents feathering their own nests at taxpayer expense, and hopefully hanging on for one more election cycle.

Public interest? Principle? Sorry, the GOP can't hear you. But please send money anyway.

I hate McCain's stance on immigration, but that bill actually makes some sense. The Federal government forces hospital ERs to treat anyone who comes in, regardless of legal status or ability to pay. That's a really bad law, and signing it was one of Reagan's mistakes (the 1986 amenesty was another big one). However, so long as we have this law on the books, it amounts to a huge unfunded mandate, and it seems only fair that the Feds reimburse hospitals for the costs of treating patients they force them to treat.
