I went to the Yuma Regional Medical Center Plaza Lab for annual tests today. They had a prominent sign on the door saying “No Firearms”. As they are a public facility, I went to the receptionist desk, showed them my doctor’s request for tests, and asked them to check my personal firearm. The nice lady at the desk looked puzzled, and I explained that they had a sign on the door saying “No Firearms” and that I wished to check my personal firearm, as required by law. I said “security has a policy for this if you with to call them”. She said “You are here for the lab. Go to that door over there, and take a number. They will take care of you there.
I went and took a number. The lady there was very busy. She told me to take a seat and wait until my number came up. I took a seat and waited about 45 minutes until number 21 was called, then I went to the desk and gave the lady my doctor’s slip. She answered the phone as she transferred my information. When she was able to devote some attention to me, I said that I wished to check my personal firearm, and that the lady at the reception desk had sent me here. She looked puzzled, and I explained that there was a sign on the door, and that security had a policy for this if she wanted to call them.
She said, “I don’t know anything about this, the lady in the lab will take care of it for you.” Then she gave me my paperwork and showed me what door to go through.
I went into the lab, and the lady technician who took blood told me to take a seat. I remarked that they were very busy for so early in the morning, and she said that it was unusual. I said that I did not want to burden her, but that I had to ask if she would check my personal firearm, because the other two ladies had referred me to her. I explained that security had a policy, but she said that she did not think it would be a problem, and I told her a funny story about the last time I had asked to check my personal firearm at the facility, and the security person who showed up as I was about to leave, having finished my tests, only asked me when my next concealed carry class would be offered.
I left the lab smiling, and thought about how perfectly this was an example of bureaucratic “pass the buck”. I didn’t mind. No one had been inconvenienced. No one had tried to infringe on my rights to self defense. But, I wondered, why bother with the sign?
The No Firearms signs mean nothing to me. I wont carry in a Supermarket or a bank,or anywhere else that lists a statute barring their carriage, thats common sense. But it goes everywhere else, whether there are signs or not. No statute listed? The sign doesnt apply..
Nobody there wanted any part of your icky gun thing.
Of course, the signs are posted for the warm-n-fuzzy feeling it gives the sign-poster and the chuckleheads who walk by, read it and give their silent approval.
Why would there be a law against carrying in a supermarket?

Same here. I paid hard cash for a life-time carry permit and
the 2nd Amendment to the US Constitution trumps all.
No law against supermarkets that Im aware of, but I wouldnt go in there with one, simply because they are on the lookout for criminals with guns, and rather than not have to explain Im not a criminal, I leave it the van. My workplace is another story-carriage is banned by our GOM, but quite a few people carry anyway..
Wow...I’ve never heard of someone refusing to carry in a supermarket!
Here in Oregon I know lots of people who have CCW’s, and I’ve never had one of them tell me they won’t carry in a supermarket.

It's not necessarily the Supermarket that I am worried about. But the parking lot getting in and out.
Besides, it is a pain to get it in and out. Just put it on and leave it alone.

They have security guards in our local market-I dont want someone telling them Im armed, if a slight movement has offered a view of my piece. It would be more trouble than its worth. I have no trouble anywhere else, most notably, my workplace..

I must live a really sheltered life in a sheltered town...I didn’t know supermarkets even had security guards!

Uniformed guards up in the front watching all the checkouts..
I read your post wrong, I thought you meant that your state had a law against packing in grocery stores for some reason.
I have never heard of a supermarket having uniformed guards. Around here the most security you will find is the nice old guy handing out the baskets or carts.
Here in AZ supermarkets and banks are OK to carry in if there isn’t a sign. With concealed carry I prefer a don’t ask don’t tell policy.
