On Howard Kurtz Coming Unhinged: We Are The Gatekeepers ...
The Virginian ^ | 9/12/2008 | Moneyrunner

No Left Turns wonders what made a fairly reasonable Liberal journalist snap and appear to go batshit crazy like the anchorman Howard Beale in “Network.” Watching somebody go unhinged in public is both fascinating and repellent. It makes you realize the beneath that urbane exterior there was a boiling cauldron of repressed fury that colored every word uttered or written. It strips Howard Kurtz naked and to see the naked Kurtz is not a pretty sight. Gone is the pretense of objectivity; gone is the pretense of seeing all sides, gone in a single essay is any pretense of impartiality. Kurtz could not have shown his allegiance to the Obama camp any more clearly if he had hoisted the Jolly Roger emblazoned with a stylized O.

So what made Kurtz snap?

Glen Reynolds suggests a source for the anger: "I think it’s because they don’t matter as much as they once did."

Another part of what is making them absolutely "nuts" is that while they are lecturing and admonishing us for "warming" to Sarah (as they did with Reagan) they are incredulous over how a hick from the sticks with no sophistication, such as they, can continue to charm and guile the American public.

Unfortunately, they are the "Emperors with no clothes" as they have dropped all pretense of being "one of us" and now have pole vaulted atop their own Mt. Olympus' to slander, diminish, threaten and warn us, "the great unwashed" as to our fate, should we choose one of us instead of "one of them."

Nice article. All of it makes sense.

“If you’re 45 or so, and have just made it, and perhaps have a couple of kids who want to go to college, it’s going to cause grey hairs and ulcers.”

That could be, if your kids “must” go to Harvard, Columbia, or some other very expensive school. But I’m sure Howie would have no trouble sending his children to a state school.

We Are The Gatekeepers ...

That's been obvious for some time now.

I can tell you this much. If the MSM still really mattered, a second stringer like Kurtz wouldn’t be the media commentator.

It sure is fun to watch. This is what happens to elites. They always end up talking to each other, lose sight of the big picture, and then find that the rest of the world doesn’t care what they have to say.

He threw a hissy fit in his column the other day. He whined that the media should be the gatekeepers who protect the public from unfit candidates, but that Palin broke through their gate. He’s worried that the media firestorm to drive her off the ticket not only failed, but backfired. He fears we’ve now entered an era when further unfit candidates can get past the gatekeepers. Of course, these gatekeepers found Obama, who has less experience than Palin, who has radical leftist mentors, who can’t give a routine stump speech without a teleprompter, who got where he is via affirmative action programs, and who stammers and stutters when answering a simple question (he’s never been asked a tough one) to be well qualified.

The best part is that the drive by media has such short lived control of the news cycles which now seem to change 3 or 4 times a day when in the past they could pound one false theme for three days and then when it was debunked, they would just bury the correction on page 16 (if they even bothered to give the debunking the slim light of day). The Times/Post etc control era is rapidly ending. Good Riddance!

Public enemy number one is the putrid liberal media.

Destroy it.

Bill Clinton was the first person unfit for the job of president. He damaged the integrity of that office as well as our credibility in the world. Yet they blame all this on Bush.

Thank you. I’ll have to look up the article. Kurtz has always been a pain in the ass.
