(To admin ...does the view counter disappearance have any correlation to the drags and slow performance at times?)
I wanted to suggest that you could use the stats and search by by which thread had the most views, also maybe a new sidebar with the top ten most viewed threads from the previous 24 or 48 hours

John has been adding new capacity to the system and if it has to be a trade off of views vs. speed, I’ll take the speed as FR has been agonizing slow these past couple of weeks.
We absolutely miss the view stats. We joined the nation of “counters” as indicative of something or other a long time ago.
You know what would help with duplicates and performance? Display less preview text under the title of the posting on the home page AND display more threads page.
Title, date, source, replies, views and 1 sentence of the intro to the article. Don’t need a whole paragraph of intro text.
This will stack the articles in a more indexed fashion and visitors could easily scroll down and identify/view the threads of the day on one page (vs. having to hit next, next, to view subsequent postings). A quick CTRL F on the page could jump visitors to a thread by title to see if the title posted up that day. This would in turn cause less duplicates to be posted (posters will see the story of interest on the home page) and then better performance.
On an outside thought...if there were two sections on the home page New articles and Most Read (articles sorted by #views - highest at the top) - it would enable the most active articles to remain visible longer...

Who cares about the stats when 50% of the time you get error messages or waiting 30-45 secs just to fresh without an error message. FR has far more serious software and hardware issues.
Ping - love the view stats
Also love the suggestion of a sidebar of ‘high view’ stats per day or even per week - or how about search views on a drop down - day - week - month - by year - all time...
