Richardson Donor Linked To Ed Rendell

Los Angeles financier David Rubin - the man who cost Bill Richardson a position in the Obama Cabinet - is apparently linked to Pennsylvania Governor “Fast Eddie” Rendell.

Rubin is not exactly just “a guy from the neighborhood,” either. He gave lots of money to Rendell’s campaign, and was later appointed to the governor’s transition team. Isn’t that interesting?

HARRISBURG, Pa. - January 6, 2009 — A campaign donor who is the target of an federal investigation that forced New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson to withdraw from consideration for U.S. Commerce secretary also gave generously to Gov. Ed Rendell’s campaigns.

David Rubin gave $40,000 to Rendell’s campaign committees between 2001 and 2005. His Beverly Hills, Calif.-based company, CDR Financial Products Inc., also continues to hold a $45,000-a-year contract as an adviser to the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Authority.

Rendell spokesman Chuck Ardo says questions about the contributions to the governor are “much ado about nothing.” (H/T - 6ABC)

Really Chuck? Then why, in late 2002, did Governor-Elect Rendell appoint David Rubin to the Governor’s Transition Team?

Doesn’t anyone find it odd that a man who gave $40,000 to Rendell’s campaign committees starting in 2001 suddenly gets a lush appointment from the governor less than two years later? And in the same vein, why does Rubin still hold a $45,000 job as an “advisor” to PHFA?

Much ado about nothing, Governor? It looks like pay-to-play to me.

Mighty interesting! Big Ed has long been known for pettier corruption, telling cops who stop his speeding limo “I’m the governor” to avoid fines, and billing the taxpayers for dinner parties. Repeatedly. This is the way he lives.
