Nonprofit Bailout included in Stimulus Package
Capital Research Center ^ | January 16, 2009 | Matthew Vadum

Posted on 01/16/2009 11:39:42 AM PST by vadum

Left-of-center nonprofits are getting the bailout they wanted from the U.S. government, the Chronicle of Philanthropy reports. The news comes a month after Independent Sector president Diana Aviv demanded it.

Our lawmakers are intent on pissing away billions of dollars on utterly useless giveaways to their supporters in the liberal nonprofit establishment. The money will have virtually no positive impact on the economy, except perhaps that it might bolster employment at nonprofit groups.

One of the more egregious line items is the $1 billion allocation for community development block grants (CDBG). These are slush funds that liberal groups like La Raza and ACORN use to subsidize their operations.

I’m with you. Never thought I’d feel that way, but I’ve come to realize that the enemy is bipartisan, globalist and intent on NA Unionizing the continent for the benefit of their own elitist selves. Politics is just a means to an end for them. Both sides, via CFR, know the agenda and are diligently playing the game. Much has been invested and they will not be deterred. So long as they can keep us scurrying about, sweating the ‘small stuff’, they can control the big picture.

As a Christian I strongly support the Salvation Army but right now I just can’t give any money to an organization that is going to make things more comfortable for anyone who voted for “Uh Bama”

I’m probably wrong for feeling this way but I just can’t do it. They voted for a person who is going to use my tax dollars to pay for abortions. Why would I donate to any organization that is going to help someone like that.

Let the “oh so generous” Joe Biden help ‘em out. Oh, I forgot, he doesn’t do charities.

Last year our gross income was right at $80,000. Of that we gave a little over $6000 to church and charity. Biden’s income was over $300,000 and he gave a little over $900. And that was more than he usually gives.

When charities call me now, I tell them the new VP is my model for charitable giving. And I’ve already exceeded what he gave last year so “I’m done for the year.”

America Newspapers and Media are all part of the propaganda machine. If you watch the tv media closely, all they do is read from the teleprotor machine. It’s all controlled; even the voting machines. Hitler couldn’t do a better job with the technology they have today.

That’s why I’ve been thinking lately that it makes good sense for conservatives with business and AUTHENTIC journalistic skills to buy out a lot of this corrupted media.

Just like GOOD movies, the American public WILL support honest, good media. Hollywood has STILL not learned that lesson though....

The present leftist media moguls never will.

I see some Repubs escaped your hate. Whoever kicks starts the ball that rolls down the hill with their "solutions"(*cough* Bush *cough*) deserves the blame. HOR stopped it the first time but who knows what kind of deals/arm twisting the President used ON HIS OWN PARTY MEMBERS to get enough votes to pass this spending orgy the second time.

SUNDAY MORNING STRATEGY SESSION We know for sure Obama and the Dims ARE NOT going to listen to us.

Now keep in mind, Obaba's most dedicated supporters---Black churchgoers----do not like these shenanigans.

Obaba has catered to his Black churchgoer-constituency. For instance----Obaba came out against gay marriage......despite his liberal proclivities. Black churchgoers vehmently oppose gay marriage---it is a paramount issue with them (some even switched votes to Republicans in earlier elections for that reason).

It would behoove web crawlers to keep Black churchgoers on top of these issues......so that Obaba will be pressured by the supporters who mean so much to him.

MUST DO Start compiling EMAIL lists of Black churchgoers....post these lists on FR on issues that need pressure groups to move on.

PLUS new investigations, and those in place, must go forward after Obama is canonized on inauguration day. Black churchgoers are the people who can move these issues.

This IS THE ONE saving grace to this debacle----but it must be employed correctly.

And it's going to get a hell of a lot worse very soon.

There's really only one viable solution.

People are going to be tired of this crap real soon once it all sinks in.

People were already tired of it prior to the election. Unfortunately, the "change" that they voted for is not the change they're going to get.

“It won’t last 8 years. People are going to be tired of this crap real soon once it all sinks in.”

I agree with you. The failure of Obama will be catastrophic and quick.

“Bush even suggested we should sign on to the LOST treaty. Just damn!”

As he leaves office, he knows he’s never going to get the support of conservatives. I just think he’s pandering, at this point, to whomever will make him feel good and give him a bit of credit. He could get a a bump up from some conservatives, if, for instance, he pardoned R & C. But I think the bipartisan powers that be will not allow it and so he’s gone to the other side to get, at this point, what little approval he can.

(note to Liz...one of my concerns regarding this, is being able to separate "poor" who are Black Americans and "poor" who are illegal aliens or have anchor babies. Either way, those Blacks who need assistance will not want to prevent this from going through. If it's going to go through anyway, they need to understand that there would be a whole lot more money for poor Black American citizens, if the majority, I'm afraid, does NOT go to illegal aliens/anchor babies.)

From the Report link in the article. Some of these things are, IMO, legitimately important for LEGAL American citizens (in some cases, me, directly), but I think we all must assume that in every instance where the words, for instance, "poor people" are used, it is INCLUSIVE OF ILLEGAL ALIENS. Unless or until we are certain, CITIZENSHIP MUST BE PROVEN, that NO MONIES ARE GOING TO ILLEGAL ALIENS (or LEGALLY where anchor babies factor in, Jobs aside, THIS IS THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM AND IT MUST BE CHANGED), the bailout money to these should be STOPPED. We are going FULL CIRCLE here.

The proposed new spending includes:

* $87-billion to temporarily increase the federal portion of Medicaid, the health program for poor people that is managed by the states. This will help states that are experiencing deep budget shortfalls as tax revenues fall. (See The Chronicle’s story on state budget woes.) [like California, who's overrun by illegals collecting benefits]

* $2.1-billion to Head Start, the early-education program, to allow it to serve 110,000 additional children and create 50,000 jobs.

* $1-billion for Community Services Block Grants, which help states provide social services to low-income residents, and $1-billion for Community Development Block Grants, which helps them provide housing and antipoverty projects.

* $1-billion for Child Care and Development Block Grants, which help states provide child-care services to low-income families.

* $1-billion to the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, which provides money to states to help low-income familiespay for heat and air conditioning

* $1-billion to help community health centers renovate their facilities, and $500-million to help them provide care to uninsured and underinsured patients.

* $120-million to the Community Service Employment for Older Americans program, which would allow charities and other groups to add 24,000 participants. The program pays low-income older people to take part-time community-service jobs.

* $100-million to the Compassion Capital Fund, which provides grants to religious and other charities to provide social services. The money would be directed to groups that provide job training, energy conservation, and other services for low-income families.

I believe it is time for a group of businessmen to sue Congress for the unconstitutional interference in normal competition. How can a regular compete against Goobermint subsidized businesses? Might even make a RICO out of it which would be very interesting.

You are on the right track by tithing and giving to worthy charities...

..Don't let the Joe Biden's of this world be your 'example' or 'excuse' for doing otherwise.

And please don't malign the Salvation Army....who probably won't get ONE CENT from any handouts, nor would they want to!

I will be tithing, plus donating to FR, Salvation Army, our local crisis pregnancy center, Focus on the Family and a few others.

These organizations need us more than ever!

Thank you Guenevere. I try to raise the voice or reason here. I am honest about my thoughts and I try to be fair, but I’m not bashful about defending my position as I see it. I’m not always right and sometimes I go out of my way to admit publicly that I was wrong. When I make comments you’ll always hear what I think is right. If I think I was wrong, I’ll admit it. For some folks that won’t be good enough. For you it appears to be, and I am very appreciative of that.

I couldn’t argue against your line of reasoning since there’s no other explanation I can think of that comes this close. Perhaps the only line that would is the one that admits he is a liberal at heart, a fan of the U.N. in sheep’s clothing, and he’s doing this because he is convinced it’s what our Founding Fathers would do.

If that is his thought, this man has no connection to Conservatism whatsoever.

No.....THANK-YOU!

I realize my strengths and weaknesses, and I know there are those here who are more articulate, informed, decisive and prepared...

I honor and salute them and will defend, encourage and support to the best of my ability.

Sometimes I feel defeated & afraid, intimidated and angry....

..but if I don't run with you and the others in this race, and try to do my part, how will we win!!!

I'm back! :)
