His clients were mainly wealthy older ladies.

He persuaded them that they should follow their desires, escape the crushing dominance of their Superegos, stop feeling guilty, and indulge themselves in adulterous affairs.

Sex is good, sex is natural, repression is bad.

This led to trouble with their husbands, or divorce, or other complications, but above all made them feel guilty—naturally enough. So they had to keep coming back to Freud for more and more advice and treatment of their guilt complexes.

A splendid source of income.

I remember Chaim Ben Pesach did a TV show on QPTV and JAO awhile back where he really tore into Freud. The guy was a pervert and a con artist to the max.
