Vanity: homophobia vs homoseximisia
My brain | 3/21/2009 | me, myself, and I

I am sick of the left pushing an inaccurate definition of a word in our society.

That word is homophobia.

The popular (and inaccurate) definition of "homophobia" is one who fears and loathes homosexuals

The _accurate_ definition of homophobia is one who has an irrational fear of monotony (doing the same thing over and over again)

homo: the same

phobia: the fear of

homo+phobia: the fear of the same

The effect of applying this word "homophobia" to those of us who are disgusted by homosexuality is that we have an irrational fear of it. Nothing can be farther from the truth (at least in the case of most of us). Most of us have a disgust for the practice and for the celebration of the same. But disgust is not fear. Disgust is disgust. That is not to say that there are not those who have an authentic "homosexophobia" (a fear of homosexuality and homosexuals), but I think that this is in the minority.

My suggestion: when somebody uses the term homophobia improperly correct them. You have no irrational fear of monotony. What you have is homoseximisia!

homosex: homosexuality and/or homosexuals

misia: hate, hater, hatred; disgust for; revulsion of

Let's take the English language back. It's our language after all, dammit!!!

TOPICS: Miscellaneous; Politics; Society
KEYWORDS: homophobia; homosexualmisia

Good luck with that. I don’t see it changing anymore than I see the usages of “gay” or “liberal” or “progressive” or “feminist” or a hundred other terms.

The language is a living thing, and it goes where it goes. Attempts to corral usage in the name of accuracy seldom if ever work.

What we “Homo Phobics” actually have is not fear, it’s a disgust of those who proselytize amoral degenerate behavior.

I have been saying that for years.

While you're at it, try to get people to use the accurate term "preborn" instead of "unborn". To undo something it must first be done, in the same way that many computer applications have an "undo" button to reverse the last action. To "unborn" someone, you'd have to stuff their body back in the womb. A person who has not yet been born is a preborn person, not an unborn person.

But, lots-a-luck!

And let’s all say “pro-abortion” or “pro-death” instead of “pro-choice.”

Mark, I just don’t think your mouthful of syllables is going to catch on in general usage, even if it is an accurate combination of the root words.

I agree: pre-born, pro-death, anti-woman, gay, liberal. All of these terms have meaning and they all have been perverted by the left.

I have no misconception thinking that we can change it back. But we _CAN_ refuse to play their silly game...and refuse to use the terms that they have perverted.

And that’s the point.

correct it’s a psychological weapon that is used to disarm (and convert) those who disagree with homosexuality (on many levels).

“Oh you mean you’re homophobic?” (implying that you are afraid of gays”..this pychological trick them gets the ‘victim’ to think: No I’m not afraid of them..leading to ‘why do you oppose them/(when you really oppose IT)?

It confuses ‘fear’ with ‘opposition’, and I suspect intentionally (because no one reasonably really fears gays), but they do oppose a deviant lifstyle (both morally and naturally-our consciences are ‘hard-wired’ on a normal human being to reject this abonormal behavior-God has given us an aversion toward it): I think the gays have come up with a psychological trick to pervert our sense of “right-and-wrong” in this instance that through social pressure, our sense of justice our conscience is changed to more easily accept a bad behavior. My 2c!

I agree. Fortunately, I don't think I ever have any occasion to use "homophobia," because your proposed substitute is a whopper!
