Sen. Shelby joins Sen. Jim Bunning, Rep. Connie Mack, Rep. Darrell Issa and The ConservativeXpress in calling for Geithner to step aside.

POLITICO reports:

Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) told Wallace “a lot of people question” whether Geithner “is the man for the job.”

Citing Treasury’s role in recommending the removal of a provision to block bonus payouts by TARP recipients, Shelby said “there’s a lot of questions to be asked. I’m not feeling real good about Treasury’s role or the specific role of Tim Geithner at the moment.”

Shelby, who voted to confirm Geithner, said “if he keeps going down this road, I think that he won’t last long. I think he’s probably on shaky grounds now, at least with the Congress and a lot of the American people.”

Shelby added “he’s going to have to do a 180 degree turnaround I believe to be a successful secretary.”

Shelby is one of the true leaders on the Republican side and it wasn’t so long ago he was a Democrat.

The US won’t last long if Congress continues down its path.

Just a couple questions:

1. What role, if any, did Shelby play in confirming Geithner, and

2. What was his vote?

hmmmmmm?

The Senate, Pubbies & Dims alike, fell over themselves to confirm this bag o' crap. Somehow, I am not comforted now by the GOP's issues. Grow some balls Senators. Or get the hell out. We don't need you stinkin' traitors.

Shelby did vote to confirm Geithner along with most of The Senate.

Obviously a bunch of hot air outta Shelby. Otherwise, why would he vote to confirm him? The GOP in dead, my friend. Pardon me, the GOP IN CONGRESS is dead. It’s up to us now.

Anyone taking odds on when Obama will throw Geithner under the bus?

I don’t put too much weight on cabinet nominee confirmation votes. It’s become almost a formality.

Tax cheating or not, it’s rare a nominee make it as far as The Senate Chamber if they will not be confirmed.

Yes, Geithner’s tax problems should have disqualified him and he should have withdrawn or Obama should have withdrawn his name from consideration.

However, most people, reps and dems alike, top economists and most of Wall Street were so convinced Giethner, like his boss, was “The One”.

What we’re seeing now is that Widdle Timmie, like his boss, is uniquely “unqualified” for the task at hand.

I don’t think anyone saw this sort of bumbling failure coming from Treasury.

The White House yes, but we knew what we were getting there.

I think with Timmy, his incompetence is a surprise.

Honestly? Huh. Seems we all seen this coming before he was confirmed.

I agree with you that the confirmation process is mostly ceremonial, however, it was yet another opportunity for the GOP in Congress to prove their relevance. Not surprisingly, they failed again.

And now this.

I know; I’m not defending Congress.

But I am surprised by Geithner. I had a lot more faith in him than I ever did in Obama.

But I guess you’re only as good as who you work for.

Considering the job he did with the IMF in Indonesia, and the results thereof, it begs the question, why?
