Pretty soon you won’t be able to walk down the street without seeing one. Get used to it.

Consider the decisions made under Barry’s watch: printing more money, taking over GM, failed stimulus plan, AIG bonus fiasco.

Doesn't that seem like a continuation of what W and Paulson were doing? TARP was originally supposed to clean the bad assets out of the financial system, which still has to be done, but W and Paulson turned it into a disastrous giveaway program for big business.

Thank you very much for that post. It took me a couple of tries to get through it. You see, my mother took exactly the same path in life as Glens. I’d never heard him tell the details, I just knew she had taken her own life.

I wish I could say it was easier for me that I was 27 when she finally gave up. But I’d be lying. It destroyed me.

I'm just doing the job other FReepers won't do. Unless the mistakes in the GOP are corrected, people like Obama, Pelosi, and Reid will continue to win elections like the Democrats did during the 50 years after Hoover.

And the current crop of Republicans could care less as long as they get their share of the loot.

There’s a sickness in this land, and I believe it has something to do with our nation’s rejection of God.

That is the truth.

digger, I am sorry for your loss.

My uncle took his life a month after his wife died of cancer.

I think that is why what Glenn said is so powerful. Almost every person knows someone who has taken their own life.

The economy was actually pretty good under Bush. What are you smoking?

I’ve lost about a half-dozen people close to me over the year by their own means. I guess..... no....I know for a fact....that having experienced that pain, can sometimes get one through a rough spot by understanding what you will do to those that care about you.

If you were in homebuilding, commodites, or government it was pretty good for awhile, but we now know those were unsustainable bubbles. Thus, Bush was a terrible economic president and so was the economy.

Well, it depends on your own perspective, I guess. We were doing fine and I didn’t know anyone who had been laid off. Now I know a lot of people without jobs.

digger, when I think of how much both my parents fought to stay alive.

Dad fearing how his wife and 7 children would be cared for....and mom, 3 months of intensive care.

I would never dishonor them with destroying the gift of life they gave me.

Unfortunately true.

“A lot of folks are losing “hope”. It’s gonna get a lot worse, i fear.”

Your post reminded me of a great book that I just discovered recently (although it was written decades ago and has sold over 10 million copies)

- Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl.

I’m not into psychoanalysis or anything like that for the most part, but I saw it on someone’s top 10 list and will be eternally grateful. I can’t recommend it enough.

A few gems from the book.

“Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.”

“Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.”

“Live as if you were living already for the second time and as if you had acted the first time as wrongly as you are about to act now!”

And then probably my favorite of all:

“That is why I recommend that the Statue of Liberty on the East Coast be supplemented by a Statue of Responsibility on the West Coast.”
