You have to wonder what runs through the minds of some of the kooks at DailyKos.
Amazingly, one America-hating Kossack who goes by the handle "KLS" actually denounced rescued Maersk Alabama Captain Richard Phillips for "recklessly put[ting] himself, the crew, and the Navy Seals at unnecessary risk." In a piece that was spotlighted at RealClearPolitics, KLS wrote:
The pirates' modus operandi is that they hold the crew, ship, and cargo harmlessly until a lot of money is paid to them. Phillips "heroic" actions put his crew and himself at risk. If he'd done nothing except acquiesce to the pirates' demands, there would have been no risk, just possible discomfort until the extortion money was paid. Instead he put himself and the Seals at grave risk.
I applaud the crew, the Seals, and the military chain of command for their actions. I think Phillips was in error--if not a grandstander, then greatly misguided. [...]
The actual result is that Maersk, the shipowner, saved a lot of money that would have been lost with the ship inactive and off charter while it sat idle in a pirate port. Is this worth the deadly risk to the crew and the Seals? Not to me.
Of course KLS assumes that (i) he or she knows the standing orders that apply to the Maersk Alabama (ii) the pirates were honorable fair play-loving chaps who would not have harmed Phillips (iii) the ransom would have been paid, and (iv) with the ransom paid the pirates would have actually let Phillips go.
As Gateway Pundit notes, "Only on the left are heroes like Captain Phillips, who put his life in danger for the freedom of his men, called grandstanders." [...]

I’d love to see the midget that runs dailykos taken hostage, and the resulting uproar at that site...not to mention the stunning hypocrisy that would display itself.
Let the pirates vow of revenge all they want and let the libs here and abroad whine. If the pirates come out to attack the US or its citizens again...they will get more of the same.
The US sent an abject and very direct message to pirates yesterday, as did the French the day before.
The US negotiating team did a GREAT job in controlling the sistuation and getting the priates to give in to allowing the life boat to be taken in tow which brought it in close to the USS Bainbridge (30 meters behind it) in a slow tow which gave the Navy SEAL snipers the best chance for taking their shots. They also lured one of the pirates off the boat to help mediate negotiations, thereby making one less pirate to take down and giving us one to garner more info from.
Then, the Captain of the USS Bainbridge so construed his orders to use deadly force in a take down if Phillips life was inn imminent danger, to correctly judge that his life was always in imminent danger from the pirates who had a gun trained on him.
This allowed him to give the go order as soon as a opportunity presented itself where all three pirates were visible to the snipers. As soon as they were, he gave the order.
And then...of course...the US Navy SEALS performed amazingly and took those three shots simultaneously and on-target in rolling waters to bring the pirates down and save captain Phillips.
Excellent work all around and the precise message we needed to deliver to these terrorists of the sea. Most importantly, Captain Phillips is alive, and now safely headed home and he and his family know...and by extension, all merchant marines know, that the US Navy (and military) will be there for them.
what's this guy thinking? They have all the firepower.
It's amazing how you can tell when someone has no idea what they are talking about. This guy certainly is a textbook case.
I love the quote how they harmlessly hold them captive ...
Oh, that’s baloney about Phillips being a grandstander...
Some writers don’t know where to start and when to quit...
Pinging back re our phone conversation last night. Just like we said.
Liberals are passive/aggressive sissies who believe that bullies will leave you alone once you merely meet their demands. Anything resembling bravery is "grandstanding" and is diametrically opposed to the sissy approach.
What an utter, despicable dick.
I hope the bastard is taken hostage one day. See what he/she/it thinks then.
You can rationalize your cowardice, but there was no guarantee that these terrorists were not going to kill everyone.
The Captain took a stand, he had to act in the best way he saw fit.
He didn't have time to think through mush-headed situational ethics.
“Id love to see the midget that runs dailykos taken hostage”
Me too. And the pirates auction him off on eBay. Wonder if they could raise more money on freeing him or promising to cut his head off if they get x amount?
Is it like Pizza Hut's: don't shoot back?
Threatening open sea lanes and free passage with their "pay me or die" ultimatums.
Liberals buy into this unbelievable mantra that somehow it is our fault that they behave this way, and if we stand up and save our people and kill these rogues, then that is our fault to.
I say we do precisely what the SEALS did every time they raise their heads and that we do more. Allow the US Military to destroy the motherships and pirates on board them of every pirate group we can positively identify...and then keep doing that every time one or more of them try and come out to sea until they never dare to venture out on the open seas again.
The Kos crowd is a bunch of whining little preening cowards, with nary a REAL MAN amongst them. They will be in the front of the line when the beheadings start. Have you ever seen that Kos guy on TV? You just know he spent his early years being beat up, and forbidden by his parents to fight back.
Nothing you do is ‘grandstanding’ when someone is holding a gun to your head.
Someone from the Kos actually KNOW what they are talking about!!! LOL.....surely everyone sees as you do...the place is run by idiots and loud mouths...
Given that this guy is a textbook example of the whiny, wimpy, clueless liberal, he probably thinks everyone is talking about actual seals.
What crew? The Maersk Alabama left days ago.
