WHAT’S KEEPING YOU, ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH?

Sadly, none of this is news. There are only a handful of truly Catholic colleges left in America, schools such as Christendom, Thomas Aquinas, Magdalene, U. Dallas, and Ave Maria.

The drift away from Catholic teaching began in the 1960s with the "Land o' Lakes statement", when clerical boards were replaced by lay boards. The rest, as they say, is history.

The pope issued a directive, about a decade ago, demanding that teachers of theology be orthodox catholics. His statement was largely ignored.

The one good thing about this Notre Dame controversy is that this decades-old news is finally making its way out to the Catholic faithful. Nominally Catholic universities have been portraying themselves to alumni as orthodox institutions.

WHAT??!!??? Does the Vatican have any control over Notre Dame at all? I’m not Catholic, so I don’t know.

Effectively, no. Until the late 1960s, Catholic universities were under the control of the local bishop and the boards were composed largely of clergy. Since the late 1960s, after the infamous "Land o' Lakes" statement, school boards became laicized, and orthodoxy declined to the point where now most nominally Catholic universities are virtually indistinguishable from government universities.

For example, Notre Dame, among many others, ran the "Vagina Monolgues." This story is really very old news. It's only news because the universities have done their best to hide this information from alumni. Money talks and... you know the rest.

Fortunately, there are a handful of orthodox Catholic universities left, and they're leading a small counter-revolution.

The pope is in a tough pastoral position, and the schools know it. If he severs the Church's formal relationship with the schools, he will have lost all influence over them. If he doesn't sever the relationship, he will be seen as approving of these outrages.

No one is perfect but the preisthood does not seem to be in any way policing itself. Maybe it’s the natural outcome of the celibacy requirement. And you assume I am not Catholic, plenty of Catholics are concerned with this issue.

If the problem were celibacy, the priests would have been molesting women or girls. 90% of the abuse cases involved young men. Why?

Over the past two or three decades, orthodox seminarians have been systematically weeded out of the seminaries by homosexuals or homosexual sympathizers within the clergy. It's been a classic Gramscian takeover, well-documented in the book, "Good-bye, Good Men."

Commencement producer Father Jenkins (pictured, left, with unknown ND drama instructor) wants to "keep it happy, keep it snappy, keep it gay!"

The celibacy issue plays out by restricting the entrance of heterosexual men into the priesthood who realize they would be sorely tempted and encouraging a subset of homosexual men who are fighting/denying their homosexuality with a promise of redemption through celibacy. I expect they find the temptation as hard to resist as would a heterosexual. The subculture within the Church that condones homosexuality can only make resistance that much more difficult. Should the Church be any different than the population at large is a question many Catholics wrestle with. I say of course it should. Others may say that isn't very democratic. A democratic liberal Church makes no sense to me. God bless us all.

well that is not something they should be forgiven and should be thrown out of the church

Pelosi, and Kennedy are not repentant - if they were they wouldn't still be for abortion, contraception, and gay marriage ALL things that are abhorred in the bible. Pelosi, et al think Chrisitan conservatives are so in the dark ages and that THEY - the enlightened ones have the true answers even if contrary to the teachings of their faith - Oh, to be so God like. Pelosi, et al should be excommunicated from the church. If they want progressive beliefs maybe they can find a church more to their liking and persuasion.
