As I watch Washington politics I am not easily given to rage.
Washington politics is a game and selfishness, out-sized egos and corruption are predictable.
But over the last week I find myself in a fury.
The cause of my upset is watching the key civil rights issue of this generation — improving big city public school education — get tossed overboard by political gamesmanship. If there is one goal that deserves to be held above day-to-day partisanship and pettiness of ordinary politics it is the effort to end the scandalous poor level of academic achievement and abysmally high drop-out rates for America’s black and Hispanic students.
This is critical to our nation’s future in terms of workforce preparation to compete in a global economy but also to fulfill the idea of racial equality by providing a real equal opportunity for all young people who are willing to work hard to succeed.
In a politically calculated dance step the Obama team first indicated that they wanted the Opportunity Scholarship Program to continue for students lucky enough to have won one of the vouchers. The five-year school voucher program is scheduled to expire after the school year ending in June 2010. Secretary Duncan said in early March that it didn’t make sense “to take kids out of a school where they’re happy and safe and satisfied and learning…those kids need to stay in their school.”
And all along the administration indicated that pending evidence that this voucher program or any other produces better test scores for students they were willing to fight for it. The president has said that when it comes to better schools he is open to supporting “what works for kids.”

I wonder if some organization will raise funds to help some of these kids go to private schools now. If so I would gladly contribute.

At least, that’s how I see his logic of supporting teacher’s unions in these efforts, of which this must only be a portent.
I saw a story on the news about these children. Actually,two go to school with Obama’s children.This is a sop to the teachers union.

The logic of the American right has been tempting you for years, the childish emotion of the American left intends to maintain it’s grip on you. You struggle in public and we just shake our heads. When will you dump that unholy democrat party evil? You are a moral man, you KNOW BETTER than to trust democrats with education. You never could trust them, and you never could admit it.

Yes, I believe I read that one child was actually in one of 0’s kid’s class. I wonder if they will have a farewll party for the kid in question!! Who do you think would attend?
I’d like to see a news story on these children... opening with all the footage of the Obama children starting school, the somber voice over: “Sidwell Friends, the epitome of Washington privilege, educator of those children with the wealthiest and most powerful families... and of (names of scholarship classmates). Now, however, (names) may not be back to enjoy (softball, chorus, etc.)....” then describe their story. Yes, I know I’m dreaming, the media will never run that kind of story about Obama....

The federal District of Columbia should be under the same regulation as our military bases. Living there should be contingent on being an employee of the federal government. Under those conditions, I could accept the federal government providing education to the dependents of employees as a job benefit (even though I would love to see quite a number of benefits for government employees slashed and burned.)
Otherwise, no public education should be offered or authorized, as D.C. is not a state, county or city in it’s own right, but federal land. So to me, the question of D.C. offering vouchers or not means nothing to me - there shouldn’t be public schools in D.C. to begin with. You want your child to go to a public school? Move to one of the many nearby cities in real states nearby. When D.C. is no longer a primary residence, quite a number of idiotic things in D.C. will finally come to a close.
Obama's plan is to import as many Hispanics over the border and legalized them so he can maintain the electoral vote and continue his revolution. The main portion of the tarp money for jobs will be used by the Hispanics on all of the construction, highway, train projects that Obama wants to put into place.
The Hispanic vote will carry Obama when the blacks become disenchanted with him. He uses people while developing others for future use. Eventually he will no longer need to votes of the blacks and also he will use the race who will actually work in hard construction work for cheap. He sees this mainly in the Hispanic race not the black race.
Juan was one of those people enthralled on election night and inauguration day by the “history” of what happened. Never occurred to him that this sort of BS would go on, apparently.
Obama knows that if they have access to a quality education, they would cease to vote Democratic. He is just preserving the future of the Democratic base.
Now he is in D.C's public schools and struggling to keep up with home work.(meaning, he has shut down)
