There is something indescribably sexy about an attractive brunette - in this case, the Governor of Alaska - reclining on a sofa made from a bear her father killed. It’s certainly attractive to men whose testicles are still intact.

A woman like that - especially if she possesses all the best attributes of the fairer sex - invariably attracts men of strength and courage (dare I call them Manly men?) while intimidating those who - at least genetically - might still be referred to as “males” (dare I call them liberals?)

Over breakfast an acquaintance complained about hunters and the fact that “they kill.” She disapproved of them and was proud to count no hunter among her friends.

I sat silent for a moment, staring at the bacon and sausage on her plate, and finally said that the hunters I know take pride in killing quickly and humanely and that they use all the meat of their “kill” to provide healthful food for their family. Whereas, pigs on commercial farms live miserable, unnatural lives and are slaughtered in abject terror. Oh, and by the way, did you know that pigs are among the most intelligent, sentient animals on the planet?

She no longer counts this vegetarian, right-wing extremist among her friends, either. (Disclaimer: If I liked meat, I’d eat it. I cook it nightly for my husband. I’m not preaching vegetarianism in this little anecdote.)
