In the last few years, the consumer camera market has exploded. As technology advances and prices drop, casual photographers can increasingly get their hands on nifty features previously affordable only to professionals. One example is a growing number of cameras (and camera casings) that can go underwater and come out unscathed, which has opened up a whole new world to hobbyist photogs.

Wow! Beautiful! I love the little pig! Poor pigs, I’m starting to feel sorry for them.

Excellent Pictures.

Some Seahorse types brood/hatch their eggs in their mouths too.

BTW, every creature on the earth has been obseved yawning except the Seahorse.

No, this fish didn't get caught snacking. The male banded jawfish (Opistognathus macrognathus) holds brooding eggs in its mouth until they're ready to hatch. The photo was taken in Riviera Beach, Fla., by Steven Kovacs and won first place in the marine animal portrait category.

These pics are why, at one point, I seriously considered becoming an oceanographer/marine scientist, and stacked up a pretty good credit foundation in college in Biology, Oceanography, Chem, and Meteorology. Loved the water and everything about it.

Ah, my misspent youth.

i’d be interested in their camera equipment. Generally you don’t get these kind of underwater pictures without a pretty expensive setup. The lighting is much much harder in the water than on land.

BTW, I’ve read that yawning replaces stale air somewhere in your ear so, yawning is good.

“Generally you don’t get these kind of underwater pictures without a pretty expensive setup”

Or a large reef aquarium in your media room. My wife has taken some of the most amazing photos of the life in our 150 gal reef aquarium with just a good Canon digital.

Gee, graphic intensive thread, there Joe.

Nice pics, though, especially the whales.

Now, to pay you back, click on this video (mildly NSFW).

Cheers!
