Stanford Shuns Condi Again

In the several days since this correspondent reported that over a hundred Stanford University community members had signed a petition against Condoleeza Rice, the number of signees exploded to nearly 800 signatures.
As of this writing, 767 petition signers have expressed their displeasure at Rice's return to Stanford, calling for "investigation and, if the facts warrant, prosecution" of the former Secretary of State.
Stanford alumni who participated in the antiwar April Third Movement of the 1960s nailed this petition to the University President's door as part of their 40th Annual Reunion.
Thomas Jefferson School of Law Professor and President of the National Lawyers Guild Marjorie Cohn said that by this action "we are asking the University to sever its ties with the war criminal Condoleeza Rice, who has absolutely no business being a tenured professor and teaching and doing research at Stanford University because she participated in the conspiracy to commit illegal war and to commit war crimes." She continued,
"This is not an issue of academic freedom any more than calling for the dismissal on John Yoo from the Berkeley law faculty is an issue of academic freedom. Professors are free to espouse radical views in their classroom or write in scholarly articles about views. That's a far cry from being hired by the administration to advise it on how to break the law and get away with it. That is not academic freedom." Yet Bill Ayers, a former member of the Weather Underground, whose fingerprints were found at a bomb factory, and Ward Churchill, fired for plagiarism, have recently argued that their actions constitute academic freedom....

Stanford has 15,000 students and all they could find to sign this petition is 767 (5%) of the students?
I'll wager you could get 5% of the students at any college to sign a petition against anything (literally anything, from h2o to classical music.) When put in that perspective it turns this story totally on its head. If anything Stanford's students would seem to be pro-Rice (or at the least ambivalent.)
Strange the reporter failed to mention all the numbers.
Forgot to mention they have 1800 faculty members. That means only 4% of combined faculty and students signed the petition.
Double standards for conservatives and "progressives."
More importantly, it is an indictment of the state of higher education today that the so-called "prestige" institutions like Stanford and UCal are nothing more than Rat-infested skeletons filling young minds "full of mush." Obama's "hate-America" campaign will recruit lots of new members out of this and similar institutions.

Not a very strong showing. I bet I could get 500 signatures against a fictional person named Charles Farnesbarnes if I alleged he was “pro-torture,” and all these other lies.
They’re trying to criminalize policy differences. They know this, and therefore they say, “This isn’t about academic freedom,” but it most certainly is. Freedom, to them, is only for the views they like.
Rice was a soaking wet “conservative” at best, plus, she was the Provost at Stanford in addition to numerous other positions there, including tenured prof. Yet they still hate her.
