Plus when 1 side is willing to wipe-out your food stocks & hunt you in your winter encampments, it's pretty much 'Game Over' no matter how much you might outmaneuver your opponent.

The effective extermination of the buffalo pretty much guaranteed the elimination of the Indians from the Plains.

“They also ate each other. Truly........”

That is because they were starving.

Indians also ate grasshoppers and pine nuts. Nothing else to eat.

There was a line in some WWII movie by that guy from JAWS (the captain of the boat) where he realizes the Germans were going to lose.

It was when he found chocolate cake in the rations of the GIs. He realized Germany barely had the resources to feed their soldiers. Forget about chocolate cake.

The only idiots are those who study battle tactic from movies.

I could not agree more! My hubby is half native. I also live amongst many full blooded natives. Movies do not illustrate historical FACTS about Native Indians.

Yes, I would, too. The short list was not meant to be all-inclusive, by any means.

Our practice of attacking winter camps was quite good tactically as they Indian’s horses were nearly starved by that time.

Our horses were in much better shape because we hauled our own feed on cavalry forays. Our horses were better and most could run down an Indian pony in a fairly short distance.

They used repeaters such as lever actions late in the Indian Wars, whereas we used the Springfield Trapdoor single shot rifle that required more disciplined and coordinated rifle fire.

“My Life On the Plains” by General George Custer is a discussion of his part in the Indian Wars. Iti s a very good read and has been in print since 1873(?).
