Barry's Choice

Barack Obama's choice for the SCOTUS is an ominous sign for the Republic. Judicial activism and extremist positions now trump Constitutional law as the primary consideration in choosing a nominee.

"Judicial activism and extremist positions now trump Constitutional law"

Don't forget 'politically important racial and gender demographics' too.

It was a given that whoever Barry picked would be a hardline leftwing pro-abortion judicial activist. After Souter made his announcment Sotomayor was discussed a lot, and I think the view was put forward that she wasn’t as strong an intellect as some of the other people being mentioned...so she may have less impact on the Court than if a more high-powered individual had been selected.

I think it is due time for Justices to start wearing Crowns instead of Robes.

If she styles herself a ‘wise Latina woman,’ than we can expect her not to sit there quietly...she'll be a boisterous, activist, in-your-face kind of justice...whatever the relative strength of her intellect.

Hunh. And diabetic to boot.

Once was married, but no children. No empathy for the pro-life crowd.

Grew up poor, in a single-parent family. Yeah, that gives a person perspective not often shared with the rest of the members of the court.

Roseanne Barr, that’s who she most reminds me of.

Obviously she believes racism is OK, as long as the practitioners are not white males. I would have disliked anyone Obama would have picked. For the time being what matters most is how Anthony Kennedy comes down on the close votes, and Sotomayor doesn’t sound like someone who will be able to overwhelm him with her brilliance.
