Apparently, Lindsey Lohan is a lesbian. I did not know this and my wife is addicted to celebrity news mags!
El Rushbo: Okay, here’s what gets me about it. Run through this again. Lindsay Lohan has a lesbian lover, Samantha Ronson, has proposed, going to get married. Fine, nobody has a problem with that, zip, zero, nada. Oh, yeah, cool, let’s do it! Let’s find a state where it’s legal.
The thorn in this is that Lohan’s a Catholic! And they want a religious ceremony? Well, I don’t even know if that’s the case. The thorn in this whole story for the parents is, “Oh, sure, my daughter’s going to marry a woman. Yay, let’s have a party! Wait, she’s Catholic? Nuh-uh, I ain’t going for that! You mean you couldn’t find a nice Jewish girl?” ...
So, if you’re a Jewish parent, what would be more preferable to you, if your child came home dating a non-Jew of the opposite sex or a Jew of the same sex?

My In Laws have had both.
And yet we call people “Jews” who have probably never been in a synagogue in their life.
So, she’s a lesbian. But there’s no way she’ll have a ceremony in a Catholic church. She should have the ceremony at her last rehab center.
Cath-o-lic! So many jokes and so little time.
One does not need to enter a church or synagogue in order to belong to an ethnic group.

Lohan is willing to convert apparently
Is this whole thing a feeble and pathetic attempt for attention, for a floundering career? A way to say negative things about the Catholic church when she realizes they won’t perform a lesbian wedding? A way to gain notoriety by becoming a proponent for gay marriage? Lohan’s comrades, (the Hollywood lefties) will give her praise and suppose and talk like she is the greatest thing since the invention of the light bulb. They will have empathy for her cause. Once again she will be front page tabloid fodder.
Judaism is not an ethnic group.
Judaism is a religion
One can be a Jew without being a member of Judaism.
One is not Jewish by birth anymore than one is Catholic by birth ( no matter what your folks may have taught you). Ethnicity is about your blood lines ( eg Caucasian, Negroid, Asian, Semitic,etc). You don’t get to redefine things just because there are cultural ‘jews’
Okay, but I will go with the word of my wife’s rabbi who understands that there are ethnic Jews and those who practice Judaism. Simply, a person may reject their faith but they cannot reject their ethnicity.

You seem to be stuck on the secondary definition. The primary definition is the most common and requires no religious affiliation.
I am not ‘fixated’ on anything. Note that the first 2 deifintions are basically the same -— ie adherents of Judaism ( albeit one is historical rather than current). The last is in reference to the kingdom which in fact practised Judaism (Old Testament and all that). They were not Philistines or Egyptians or other gentiles.
Or from adherents, or. Israel and orthodox Jews in the USA recognize you as Jewish if your mother was Jewish without regard to whether you practice Judaism or not.
I thought the proper term was Israelite?
