CNN and Cooper In Ratings Nosedive
Accuracy In Media ^ | May 31, 2009 | Don Irvine

CNN's strategy of playing to the middle to distinguish itself from Fox and MSNBC appears to have fallen flat.

From the Politico

On day one, CNN ruled cable news.

But while viewers may flock to the network for election day or the Inauguration, day 130 is a different story.

CNN, which just took home a Peabody Award for its 2008 election coverage, and dominated cable-news ratings on days when politics took center stage, is having trouble getting those viewers back on other nights.

Middle? MIDDLE!? Anderson Cooper, that little sodomite, who mocked tea parties with his juvenile “tea bagging” jokes is “moderate”? Goodness!

CNN is sitting in the center-right of press-land, which is far to the left of the idealogical center of America, perhaps center-left if we are to be generous. MSNBC has its foothold on the far-left, FOX on the center-right, and every other network is battling it out in the region between left and center-left. There is little competition for the center to center-right (basically FOX), and little competition for the right (a few talking heads on FOX - perhaps just Glenn Beck and some assorted guest hosts).

FOX has some really poor programming, going beyond right-left issues (I mean, Bill O’Reilly? Geraldo Rivera? Mike Huckabee? Unwatchable and embarrassing...), and oftentimes comes across as being an RNC mouthpiece - yes, I understand every other network is collectively one giant DNC mouthpiece.

CNN plays to the middle.

LOL

Someone needs to recalibrate their political meter.

Limbaugh is to the right (20 million listners)
FOX is in the middle (2 million viewers)
MSNBC is to the far far left (0.8 million viewers)

There is a whole lot of viewers starving for something to the right of FOX.

CNN playing to the middle of what?

And here I thought Fox was a hair to the 'moderate' side of center...

I would like to see the following have their own shows on the FOX NEWS CHANNEL or talk radio:

1. Dick Morris

2. Ann Coulter

3. Mark Steyn

4. Pat Buchanan

5. Monica Crowley

6. Charles Krauthammer

7. Bill Kristol

Agreed. I have found Fox biased at least as much as CNN. However, it is the tabloid crap on Fox that makes it unwatchable for me. I have basically accepted that I can't get unbiased news on TV, so I mostly read news on the internet, in newspapers, and when I have to pick a biased network, I pick CNN because while biased, it isn't tabloid.

Actually FOX NEWS CHANNEL is far less biased than most other cable or network news channels.

Yes it is true some programming leans to the right a bit but by and large they do present BOTH points of view frequently.

FOX NEWS CHANNEL is extremely good on national news (not so good on local news unless it is particularly newsworthy).

While the morning programming on FOX NEWS CHANNEL is not as strong as the afternoon and evening programming it is still very good especially when compared to the other cable and network news shows.

What FOX NEWS CHANNEL needs to do is so get stronger and better shows on the weekends which is where I believe there is enormous room for improvement!

What Fox news needs to do is to eliminate all bias and tabloid, non-news crap, and instead become a news network.

I enjoy news. I don't enjoy sensationalism masquerading as news.
