Corporatism boils down to this: The government tells industry (and eventually labor unions) what to do and that they must do it for the supposed good of the country, or else their individual leaders will pay a price. Doesn't this sound similar to what is happening to the auto industry today?

Wow. That is interesting. I had never heard of syndicalism. I just check it out and it sure sounds like that is what we have here. I did hear someone call Glenn Beck this morning concerned that we are going to be Communist. He said we are in the midst of corporatism which leads to Fascism.

The inaccuracy of all this shouting “socialism” and “facism” is that historically, in the antions that are most commonly used as examples, the industries or businesses were taken over involuntarily. In the case here in the US, the banks, and then the auto industry, cmae begging to Uncle Sam for help. Obama said, sure, but you’ll have to sell your souls, and they volunteered to do so. SOme banks scratched the cash together as fast as possible to get out from under the deal with the devil but others, “too big to fail” banks and industries sold out hook, line and sinker.

Pinning labels is great for parlor games, but little is gained. The common factor that renders all governments, including democracies and republican governments, corrupt and dangerous is size. As people demand more and more from their government, they cede some of their freedom and seize others’ freedom. The least government is the best government whatever it is labeled.
