Iranian Navy Gets Three Locally Made Submarines
The Iranian army has received three light locally made Ghadir-class submarines.
The submarines were handed over at a ceremony at Bandar Abbas port in southern Iran, which was attended by Iranian security officials.

I can just see it.
They would use “rocks” for ballast.
(Submarines don’t normally have portholes but hang on and I will tell you why the Iranian Navy would have portholes on their submarines).
To get back to the surface they would open the portholes and throw the rocks out.

Also, I think the fact that the crew is wearing Scuba gear speaks volumes about their confidence in the design of this new Iranian supervessel :)
Actually now that I am looking at that picture closer, is that really a submarine? Or is it a torpedo that they have put a windshield and seats in and strapped a couple poor scuba divers into?
Don’t knock it. Its a swimmer deliver vehicle. SEAL’s use them, too, but ours are better. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_SEAL_Delivery_System
Something - a tanker, a freighter, a sub, carries near a target and the swimmer deliver goes the rest of way. Its pretty big, so it may have a long range, or a big payload. It would be kinda ugly if a frogman delivered a big limpet mine, to, say, a LNG carrier. Oil terminals in the Gulf could also be good targets.

I wonder if the WWII-era sea bombs are sufficiently effective against an Iranian mini sub?
