The main characteristic of the so called W shaped economic is that the economy shows signs of recovery for a while and then suddenly begins to pull back. This can happen over and over. As such, words like choppy, stop start, and uneven are often used during a W shaped recovery. That's exactly the language used by George Soros earlier this week.

Is the W-shaped economy Bush’s fault?
Someone had to ask that question. :)
when unemployment is 11%, Bush will no longer be any excuse.
In the AP story, one guy says this,
“We were on the road of things getting less bad in the jobs market, and that has been temporarily waylaid,” said economist Ken Mayland, president of ClearView Economics. “But this doesn’t change my view that the recession will end later this year. We’re probably two months away.”
How’s that for wishful thinking. We lost 467000 jobs last month but in two months it will all be over.
HEY OBAMA AND CONGRESS: THE ONLY REAL “STIMULUS” IS TO PUT MONEY BACK INTO THE HANDS OF THE TAXPAYER AND LET THEM START SPENDING. WORKS EVERY TIME!!
the problem is everyone is saving not spending. Our economy is going through a cleansing. ultimatley, that’s a good thing but in the meantime, it is painful. People need to save more and that’s what they are doing. For the time being, there is a lot less spending.
